Along with a new Collector's Edition of Casino Royale by Sony, MGM has released a slew of classic Bond films in standalone singles or value packs. Dr. No included one of the dullest documentary featurettes we've ever seen, but taking a quick tour through From Russia with Love, we found a gem of an interview with Ian Fleming (the creator of James Bond who died in 1964).

So the DVD collection may be a little hit or miss, though both feature commentary by director Terrence Young and cast (and the newer films are packed with similar fan-worthy extras). Video quality on the early titles is predictably a bit rough and grainy, but luckily not sharpened and flattened to kill the original print feel.

Lots of other decent releases this week, including Sweeney Todd and Zombie Strippers. (Admittedly, we've never seen Zombie Strippers, but we're pretty sure it's one of our ten faves.)

• The Breed (First Look)
• Casino Royale (2006, Collector's Edition) (Sony)
• Diary of the Dead (Weinstein)
• Die Another Day (MGM)
• Dr. No (MGM)
• Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (Vivendi Visual)
• For Your Eyes Only (MGM)
• From Russia with Love (MGM)
• Halloween (2007) (Weinstein)
• Holiday Favorites with the Wonderland Carolers (Cinevolve)
• The Incredible Hulk (2008) (Universal)
• James Bond Collection Three-Pack: Volume 1 (Dr. No, Die Another Day, Live and Let Die) (MGM)
• James Bond Collection Three-Pack: Volume 2 (For Your Eyes Only, From Russia with Love, Thunderball) (MGM)
• Live and Let Die (MGM)
• The Strangers (2008) (Universal)
• Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (DreamWorks)
• Thunderball (MGM)
• The Woods Have Eyes (Echo Bridge)

<![CDATA[This Week in Blu-ray: Sleeping Beauty of Death Edition]]> Giz Pick of the Week: Sleeping Beauty

Yes, Blu-ray is a high definition gimmick to make you repurchase old movies. But in the case of Sleeping Beauty, Disney claims that the original 70mm print has never been viewed with less image cropping than on BD—even in theaters. Presented in super wide 2.55:1, if the image alone isn't enough to convince you, then enjoy the four original songs that were cut from the film, a 3D walkthrough of Sleeping Beauty Castle and the ability to watch the film with friends while text chatting over Disney's BD Live network...along with a bunch of other legitimately good looking documentary content. Other releases:

• The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (Sony)
• The Amityville Horror (1979) (MGM)
• Beetlejuice (Warner)
• Body Heat (Warner)
• Carrie (1976) (MGM)
• Faces of Death (Gorgon)
• The Happening (Fox)
• Korn: Live on the Other Side (Image)
• The Omen (1976) (Fox)
• The Omen: The Collection (Fox)
• Otis: Uncut (Warner)
• Ray Harryhausen Collection (20 Million Miles to Earth, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, It Came From Beneath the Sea, 7th Voyage of Sinbad) (Sony)
• Rest Stop (Warner)
• Rest Stop: Don't Look Back (Warner)
• Stuck (Image)
• The Visitor (2008) (Starz)
• You Don't Mess with The Zohan (Sony)
• Young Frankenstein (Fox)

<![CDATA[This Week in Blu-ray: The Godfather Collection Edition]]> Giz pick of the week: The Godfather Collection

Some of you may already have the trilogy on DVD (or even VHS), but a year was spent remastering the Godfather movies frame by frame for this Blu-ray release under the strict watch of Coppola himself. The new collection goes for about $80, but features all sorts of new extras along with rehashes from the original DVD collection if you never picked that up. Godfather not your thing? You're an idiot. But there's lots of other stuff out this week as well:

Animalia: Welcome to the Kingdom (Porchlight)
Blow (New Line)
Cirque du Soleil: Corteo (Sony)
Deception (Fox)
The Godfather Collection (Paramount)
Halford: Live Insurrection - Remastered (Metal God)
L.A. Confidential (Warner)
Leatherheads (Universal)
Madagascar (DreamWorks)
Re-Cycle (Image)
Run Fatboy Run (Universal)
Sex and the City (New Line)
Shrek the Third (Paramount)

<![CDATA[This Week in Blu-ray: Pirates of the Hulk Racers Edition]]> Giz Pick of the Week: uhh...

We're actually not sure which movie to endorse this week. Speed Racer was viewed at a drive-in, where it was tough to make much of its probably gorgeous visual effects. Pirates of the Caribbean is hitting in a $83 3-movie pack...which doesn't seem like any kind of special deal. And Ang Lee's Hulk (yeah, that's the one coming this week, not the recent update) isn't exactly a fan favorite. Of course, we listed all of the releases after the jump. So maybe there's something you prefer.

•1408 (Weinstein)
•88 Minutes (Sony)
•Another Cinderella Story (Warner)
•Dragon Ball Z: Tree of Might/Lord Slug (FUNimation)
•Hulk (2003) (Universal)
•The Love Guru (DreamWorks)
•Madagascar (DreamWorks)
•Made of Honor (Sony)
•The Mist (Weinstein)
•Pirates of the Caribbean: 3-Movie Collection (Walt Disney)
• Pushing Daisies: Season One (Warner)
•Risky Business (Warner)
•Speed and Angels (Vivendi Visual)
•Speed Racer (Warner)

<![CDATA[This Week In Blu-ray: Kill the Baby Mama Edition]]> Giz pick of the week: Baby Mama

Oh sure, Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 and are out, as are Rudy and Jerry Maguire, and there's nothing special on the $35 Blu-ray edition that's not the the DVD of Baby Mama (other than hi def). But roughly half of the Gizmodo staff has a crush on Tina Fey (with the other contingent splitting their votes between 30 Rockers Alec Baldwin and that dude who wears the funny hats) and we're quite loyal to those we picture in various states of undress. Here are this week's other Blu-ray releases:

—Baby Mama (Universal)
—Blu-ray Zombie Bundle (Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn0 (Anchor Bay)
—Cool Hand Luke (Warner)

<![CDATA[This Week In Blu-ray: Every Which Way But Loose Bolts Edition]]> Giz pick of the week: Transformers (Two Disc Special Edition)

It was the thorn in Blu-ray's side. Transformers, otherwise known as the '80s cartoon manifestation of geekdom, was HD DVD only. Well luckily for Blu-ray owners, HD DVD died a violent death and they got their Megatron fix after all. While this two-disc set won't offer anything extra over what was released last year on HD DVD, all of the special features have been ported to the new format along with the same, pristinely encoded video.

Here are the rest of this week's Blu-ray releases, including this week's runner up, Every Which Way But Loose:

•Black Mask (Lionsgate)
•Cirque du Soleil: Corteo (Sony)
•Eraser (Warner)
•Every Which Way But Loose (Warner)
•The Gauntlet (Warner)
•The Invincible Iron Man (Lionsgate)
•Marine Aquarium (BCI)
•Married Life (Sony)
•Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow (Lionsgate)
•Outbreak (Warner)
•Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles (FUNimation)
•Transformers (2007) (Paramount)
•Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (Warner)

Yeah, I just may have to be a stereotype of my demographic and pick Transformers up. [hidefdigest]
