@rickt: Not that much actually, automobiles only account for about 3% of worldwide pollution. The biggest offenders are power plants.

@Talryyn: Actually, over 90% of the battery components in hybrid cars today are completely recyclable. Then again, 94% of all statistics are made up on the spot, so take numbers like that with a large grain of salt.
