I never did to well in math since i never bothered to get a TI-83 calc, I could only imagine how much worse i would have done if i had this TI-83 "plus".......
I'm with you. It's idiotic because the plastic around the bowl is going to melt, and melt badly. Smoking TI-83 case-fumes probably isn't great.
Secondly, heated duct tape fumes aren't great either, and it's probably not an air-tight seal. Eventually all that smoke that leaks inside the case will leave residue all over the circuity, which can't be good.
Finally, I'm guessing the guy uses this in school. Do you really want to whip out your pipe every time you do some math in class?
(I don't think that's what you meant, ferris209, but that's my assessment).
Its like a suped up version of the now geriatric TI-83 plus/plus silver edition. What they did that I know of is add a clock and more ram to it, I assume they also added a slightly faster processor... but I am unsure about the last part.
I personaly prefer my 83+ anyday, as it saved me so many times in durring my high school years. (which was 3 years ago, LOL)
Less likely to get stolen as a calculator than a Gameboy. Criminals dont generally need to do Calculus and the fence resale value on hot TIs had to be nil unless its at a Giz meet up or the parking lot of NASA or something.

If he could've made the tube out of somethin' other than duct tape it would be masterful.

yeah i mean, nylon tubing isn't particularly expensive...
