    I noticed this phenomenon (the first bounce, that is) while working in my lab last year. Man, I must have spent the next ten minutes just fooling around trying to duplicate the effect. Ten minutes of productive research, gone. #highspeedvideo

    It seems that the height the water is dropped from plays a part in the way the drop interacts with the water it lands on. I didn't watch it with sound so they may have talked about it. As for "no special water" that is kind of meaningless. Water quality can be vastly different from tap to tap, or bottle to bottle, and all of those will be different from 100% pure H2O.

    @daniel.r.jacobs: I wonder if there is a dropping velocity that pushes all the air out from under the drop at once, allowing the whole drop to be absorbed. I'm sure falling from a rain cloud at 3,000 feet would do it if ever. #highspeedvideo

    @GustavoSM:
    I've always kinda wondered if we were just programmed to believe that water drops sound like that, when in fact they sound like something completely different.

    It's the same thing with artificial fruit flavors. Who dictated that this flavor will be "orange", when it tastes nothing like a real orange. What if we colored it purple, and called it grape? #highspeedvideo

    @Xagest: I'm pretty sure artificial flavors start out as pretty accurate imitations, then slowly change over time as they are value engineered into something more affordable. I remember when gushers first came out, they were the first 'grape' flavored candy that I would eat. They actually tasted like grapes. The years haven't been kind to them. #highspeedvideo

    Time Warp is a really cool show. They've gotten a bit "fluffy" in their science compared to the original pilot, but this one gives me hope! Very informative and spectacular at the same time. #highspeedvideo

    I once e-mailed Jeff about the Breakdancing episode where they're shooting nails through apples (they noted that tip of the nail deflects when it hits the apple, but it's already angled before it exits the barrel and simply cuts through the apple at a matching angle). He responded by saying that I was probably correct, but that they generally only had a short while to review the footage before shooting their "reaction" shot. It's not that they're not trying to keep it all scientific, but that when they don't already know exactly what to expect ahead of time (like when they were dancing on the tub full of corn starch and water), they might already be packing up for the day before anyone really figures out exactly what they were watching happen. #highspeedvideo

    I'm not particularly impressed by 2000 frames/s. That's not fast enough to show you the propagation of a "spidering" pane of glass being broken, among many other things. I'd like to see 1M frames/s. #highspeedvideo

    @jurrasix: Must agree. The inane banter and hosts are a little annoying. Although two weeks ago when they had the female lumberjacks on, I must admit I was hanging on every word. I think if they just did the segments on how they set up the cameras, and what equipment they were using, and then the videos, they'd have a lot more viewers.

    There was a show on I believe History Channel where they had people doing trick shots with bows, guns, and rifles, and I hated it because they spent like 8 minutes on the set-up, and only 2 on the images, which is too much filler. #highspeedvideo

    You might only pay for what you use, but you have to pay it monthly. If you have 100gb of stuff it is NOT cheap. You’re better off buying an external drive(s).

    If you want off-site, put the drive in your car.

    @UnderLoK:

    Even if they were going to bother searching through your stuff, how would they know what was licensed or not? Besides, it's an encrypted archive.

    Even though I don't agree with Amazon's decision to delete the purchased books from people's Kindles, it's a vastly different situation. They were in the position of having sold files that were in violation of copyright. They were trying to minimize the damage. They don't have any compelling reason to start rifling through S3 customers files.
