@Nathan Cline: I'm in complete agreement with you. What is more amazing? That a supposedly all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful God can create the universe...uh, no shit! ALL POWERFUL...hello?!

OR, that it wasn't created by any one ... I find that FAR more awe inspiring and interesting.

I used to be a born again Bible literalist many years ago...and now I'm agnostic with occasional bouts of atheism. Believing "God" did it is such a cop out to THINKING about stuff. Just have "faith" and accept XXX as the truth. No thanks....

@Dynastius: It also demeans the whole complexity and amazing things that had to fall into line for everything to be the way it is. Just look at the way the human body and organs all work together but are insanely complicated to the point of being beyond our full comprehension. I see it as much more amazing to think that this was a slow process that needed so many things to happen perfectly to prevent us from being another dead branch on the evolution tree.

@Darkest Daze: Damn straight DD. I'm always amazed how believers say not believing in God and an afterlife would make life / existence meaningless...for me it's the exact opposite. (I been on both sides of the fence as a believer and non-believer)

If this is IT..not a prelude to an eternal existence in some spiritual realm...then man...you BETTER make it count and have some meaning. We are responsible for making our life have meaning, it's not something external.

@Dynastius: Total agreement. If there's one thing I absolutely cannot stand, it's religious zealots who think they can run around acting like assholes because they think they get another shot at it in "the hereafter," or that one little moment of prayer/confession absolves them of all the gross asshattery they commit the other 98% of their lives.

And they presume to look down their noses at Atheists and Agnostics because we couldn't possibly have any sense of right or wrong without some sort of higher power to put it there.

Amazing stuff. Kinda makes you realize just how little we all in the grand scheme of things. You may not share my same faith but seeing something like this puts me in awe of the God who created it.

Yes it's a glorious sight indeed. An entire universe which wouldn't shed a single tear to see you starve and die on one of its rocky islands.

A universe whose intrinsic nature is cold and uncaring. One might even say molevolant towards our little pocket of life meagerly fighting entropy.

What a majestic galaxy in which we cannot live. Whose nature of limited and difficult to harness energy fuels a non-stop genocide of conflict over what few scraps remain.

A beautiful sight indeed.
