Tivo had search too for a very long time. It introduced Swivel Search about a year ago, which let users search Amazon as well as TV broadcast content. But Swivel Search, er sucked.

Anyway, this new search function looks great. But I agree with @qmuser who said that it should include NetFlix in the search results. It's crazy not to.

@Jose Alvear: Netflix doesn't have an accessible search API. Users have to go to their website and set things in a queue. So if you want search on Netflix titles, tell Netflix.

@Jose Alvear: as i said to qmuser, and as MegaZone pointed out, it has more to do with Netflix than with Tivo. Since Tivo implemented search for everything else, obviously they could have done it for Netflix if there wasn't an issue on Netflix's end.

Looks like this isn't going to hit S2 boxes ever.

That and with Tivo's staunch refusal/inability to support satellite users, I have a feeling that I'll be turning in my box soon.

@mykie: Since this new UI is designed to take advantage of HDTV, and the S2 doesn't DO HDTV, you're right, you won't see this on an S2.

As for satellite - TiVo and DirecTV are back together and new DirecTiVos are coming this year.

The one thing I wish they would add to the search is Netflix. It makes no sense to me that TiVo will show me video that I can purchase/rent from Amazon and download without having to fire up my computer. But when it comes to the Netflix streaming now, I have to add the movies using my computer then I can access them on the TiVo.

@qmuser: Since, as you point out, Tivo had no problem implementing search for Amazon movies, I would think Netflix is to blame for the the lack of Netflix search, not Tivo.

@qmuser: Playing with this new interface it isn't limited to Amazon, I also shows things available from Jaman and Disney/CinemaNow, I didn't notice Netflix but I don't subscribe to them so that may be why it didn't show up. Or I just didn't search on anything they have available: [www.gizmolovers.com]

Remember Netflix is queue based - they don't allow access to their full library for any of the streaming devices. So it probably has more to do with them than with TiVo - they need to allow a search API and not require users to setup a queue via the web.

@Captain_Eh: Same here. I don't search from the TiVo much, but I'd still like to be able to do this kind of stuff. Seems doubtful, though...
