In the future, everyone will be criminals. Oh, you are not a criminal? Downloaded any mp3's lately? If one criminal has no rights, then no criminal has any rights, and yes, I'm talking to you Mr. Vuze.

It's about social control, it's about the day when the people get fed up with losing their homes, while banks get fatter and fatter, that's when they shut it all down.
If you don't like that, they have a heat ray ready for you!
Like it or not, there is a grave injustice being done to those who have already served their time. You don't REALLY believe this will make anyone safer do you? Better than 95% of sexual abuse happens in the home, NOT from some scary person down the street. WAKE UP AMERICA! This is only a stepping stone towards YOU!
@rhett121: Wow, I was going to paraphrase that quote too, first they came for the sex offenders, but I did not say anything, because... then they came for the dope dealers, but I did not say anything...
This IS how civil liberties are destroyed, they use hard cases that no one will defend. Once they have their legal precedent, they can do it to anyone and they will.
To the ultra rich, the oligarchy and complicit pols, the internet is the greatest threat to their status in existence and it must be controlled. They are working very very hard on that. Check to see what David Rockefeller is saying about the net in his committee.
Great idea cept, what is considered a "sex offender" is so broad. I heard a news story once where a man almost hit a teenaged girl who jumped out in front of his car. He stopped the car and scolded her. int he progress, he grabbed her arm. he was charged with something or another and forced to register as a sex offender. Another case of a 17 year old boy who received oral sex (voluntarily) from a 15 year old girl and might have to register.
@ryusen: They are also charging kids , teenagers, as sex offenders for sexting, i.e. sending nude or even suggestive pics of themselves to their boyfriend/girlfriend.
@frunk: The point is not, are their workarounds, the point is that they will use this legal precedent to go after other groups, till eventually they get to everyone. People will, for a while, figure out how to get around it, but they will be criminals for doing so. This is why they have the stupid downloading copyrighted materials laws. When they make everyone a criminal, then everyone has a leash on them.
The problem is "privacy." We should have total transparency... no private password, naked passengers on airplanes, and open access to all information to anyone.
A "police state" has no crime and no problems... not true?
@RainyDayInterns: Actually police states have lots of crimes. What they don't have are elections or dissent because all the dissidents are in camps, or have been shot in the back of the head, with the cost of the bullet being billed to the family.
The classic "freedom vs. protection" case. Where are you willing to draw the line? We could imprison sex offenders for life. We could execute them, that would really slim down the recurrence rate. Better yet, would you agree with a drug or surgery that would remove any sexual impulses/wants. We could put CCTV cameras on every corner, put chips in our children, or surrender all of our passwords to the government; then they could protect us! Fear of a repeat offense suddenly outweighs our privacy rights?
I'm torn. On the one hand, if they're not in jail then I don't trust them. On the other, this is an invasion of the privacy all Americans should enjoy, that is being invaded by the government like so much piss on the constitution.
I think it is telling about our society that sex offenders are punished more harshly than murderers. It seems like they're going in the direction of shipping sex offenders off to Madagascar. Also, everyone assumes that "sex offender=child molester," but things like mooning a police officer, having taken naked pictures of yourself when you were 17 or having a computer with pop-up ads that are visible to a class full of junior high school kids can all make you a sex offender as well.
I certainly hear the feedback that any freedom is too good for these scumbags, but it begs the question: Why are we setting them free?
Yes, I know about our messed up judicial system, and the messed up laws governing them. Never the less, if we assume that a person should be set free, then we should assume they should have the same rights as any other free person.
I think what most people here would argue is that these douche bags should stay in jail. And, on that point, I will not argue.
@SMSDHubbard: True. In some cases, plain old public urination was enough to qualify as a sex offender. I say plain old public urination as in against a wall when you are supposedly alone and hidden.

When the Nazis came for the communists
I remained silent
I was not a communist
When they locked up the social democrats
I remained silent
I was not a social democrat
When they came for the trade unionists
I did not speak out
I was not a trade unionist
When they came for the Jews
I remained silent
I wasn't a Jew
When they came for me
there was no one left to speak out

They could just create working dummy email and user accounts to give to authorities.
They could just go to a friend or family members house to go online.
They could go to the local library or coffee shop to use online.
They could drive around neighborhoods scanning for open Wirless connections and at the same time looking for new sex offender victims.(Double Bonus)
So can someone explain to me how they plan on implementing and monitoring all of these sex offenders emails, user account names, passwords, etc?
