isn't there a real answer out there? i haven't slept in 36 hours and i'm out of wit. so i'm going with carpenters tools given the assortment of saws and wood planers. mmm wood planers...
@valkilmerisawful: H.O. Studley was in fact a piano maker and this is the toolbox for the tools of his trade, collected over thirty years. In the cabinetry/fine woodworking trades, such a cabinet was a way of displaying your skills. It is not meant to be portable. His is a particularly fine example of a tool chest, given the density of tools he managed to include and the fine detailing--ebony and ivory inlays, probably scraps from piano making. This is a sufficiently fine example of this art that I believe it is currently in the Smithsonian.
@Faslane: Ugh. This is not steampunk. This is the real deal. It is an amazing piece of 19th C craftsmanship involving meticulous planning, fine execution, and considerable skill. It is not some piece of junk with a bunch of copper and brass stapled to it by some pre-pubescent who dreams about being invited into the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Pish Posh, John Herman. The romanticism of a man and his tools individually laboring for the benefit of others is over-rated. Think of the stage you mount with your macbook and shoulder bag. You reach the world with the slightest of keystrokes. Poor Brother Henry needed your hand to be remembered for his efforts at all....
This tool chest does all the work of convincing clients you are a professional... much like my shopping bag full to astroglide, amyl nitrate, and furry handcuffs.
@badhatharry: The rodent and I hit it off, so he said for me to tell you, is MY rat now. We are going to get married, if we can find a state that allows inter species vows. Thanks for the matchmaking, I bet we live happily ever after, or at least my cat comes home.
Wow, I just found an old dual 5.25 disk drive for an apple II. I miss the old logo and that greenish beige color all the apples were until Mac game out in gray.
