Philips Working on a Full Touchscreen Phone?

Philips Xenium phones are generally known for their long-life battery performances but if these photos are in fact real, then the designers are venturing into new iPhone, Diamond touchscreen territory. PC World China is saying that the upcoming Xenium x800 will have an "e2e" screen— that's an edge-to-edge touchscreen, apparently. Design LG's Touchscreen Phone UI Theme, Win $14,000

LG's in the midst of revamping their touchscreen UI, possibly because their previous touchscreen phones weren't all that great, but possibly because...ok that's probably the reason. Not only is the Korean company looking internally at their own designers to fix the problem, but they've offered a 14 million Korean Won prize ($14,364) to the community for someone to come up with a UI theme that's good enough for engineers to work with. The submission above, although quite nice looking, is a bit too cluttered to be useful in our opinion. What would you say to your grandma that's trying to make a call? Eee PC Touchscreen Coming This Summer, Asus Confirms

Asus' president of sales, Kevin Lin, has announced the upcoming 8.9-inch Eee PC will have a touchscreen incorporated. Lin also speculated that the device may have GPS functionality, too, however this was not confirmed. The announcement has us a little confused, as earlier reports suggested otherwise. Still, Lin went on to say the expected starting price for an 8.9-inch touchscreen toting Eee will be around $500, and he also added that the Eee Desktop PC will begin retailing at the $199 mark. LG Touch Web Cellphone Has 3-inch 800 x 480 Screen, Full Browser

LG are sending some serious touchscreen love to South Korea, all in the form of the Touch Web cellphone, a.k.a. LG-LH2300. The touchscreen wonder has a 3-inch display, with a staggering 800 x 480 resolution, as well as a 3MP camera with AF, MicroSD memory slot and a full internet browser, which has incorporated hot keys and a jog wheel for scrolling. The widescreen toting cellphone is expected to retail for 700,000 KRW ($693,) when it begins to ship this April. Netronix E-Book To Have Touchscreen and Wi-Fi

Taiwanese manufacturer Netronix is promising a new spin on an old idea: putting a touchscreen on an the EB-100, an E-Ink-based e-book reader. We've actually seen the basic design before, in the gen-3 Cybook by Bookeen. But there was never promise of touchscreen, nor anything said about 802.11g Wi-Fi, which Netronix is also offering. The rest of the specs are pretty straightforward: 6" screen, SD card slot, support for PDF, RTF, TXT, HTML, MP3, AAC, and some image files. Microsoft's LucidTouch Transparent Touchscreen Device Gets All Mocked Up

Naturally, when we first laid our eyes on the LucidTouch prototype from Microsoft back in October, we were intrigued by the transparent multi-touch interface that allows users to control the device from behind the screen. Now, five months later, Microsoft has unveiled some artist mock-ups of what the device could look like as a final product. When compared to the prototype, it is readily apparent that they have a long way to go (especially with that bulky camera), but at least it is still an ongoing project. LG's previously leaked Glimmer phone does something interesting that we haven't seen much of before—combine a touchscreen with a slide-out keypad underneath. The 2.8-inch touchscreen lets you control the 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and AGPS (assisted GPS), but if you've got ham hands and feel like touch-dialing is a bit of a chore, you can slide out the keypad and call from there. "Dreambook" Cloudbook Mod Adds Touchscreen, GPS, More Ports

Cloudbook modder Azazel has done some extraordinary work to the Everex Cloudbook. His mod, called Dreambook, adds in a touchscreen display, internal 4-port USB hub, GPS unit and 4GB's of flash memory. The webcam had to get the axe to fit all the new features under the hood, but we think it is a good trade-off. Accorrding to Azazel, "There is a lot of room to work with," and in that case, we demand the webcam back. The images show the naked Dreambook mod, but it will definitely look a lot better once it gets back into its space-wasting skin. All in all, it's a great effort. Bravo, Azazel.
