I really really like this. For one, like it points out, you don't have to have your fat fingers covering up the screen whenever you're using it. In addition, it fixes my biggest complaint with touchscreen technology, which is the fact that your fingers necessarily smudge up the screen. This fixes both of those problems and I for one cannot wait for such a technology to be implemented in a device that I can get.
@xanderbeedle: I remember that too. But some times companies can get away with copying a patent if they do it in a different way. We'll see how that works out
Apple's patent has a touch interface on the back of a device and shows the location of your finger with a moving dot on the front screen . . . it isn't translucent and so you can put the battery etc. in between . . . a much better solution.
Sweet tech...It always made sense to have this kind of interface setup. I've been playing old school Doom on my iTouch for weeks, it's a pain to have the controls overlaid over the screen.
A friend of mine works for a large (nameless) aerospace and miliraty contractor, and he's been dealing a lot with touch screen interfaces, and the infamous Surface interface. Lot's of cool ideas in the pipe.
@shorty6049: For him to keep his job.. I'd rather not say. He works in R&D for a defense contractor and some of his fellow engineers might read The Giz. Companies tend to get weird when it comes to proprietary ideas that might trickle down to lucrative consumer products.
Is it just me or does that appear to be a one way display as well! You wouldn't want your neighbours seeing you watch Flash Dance at two in the morning...

Not that there's anything wrong with it.
