It attaches under your guitar's volume knob and lights up to the appropriate key when you're in pitch. At $100 it's also $94 more expensive than the tuner we currently own, so we're going to have to lose a lot more tuners to justify buying one of these when it's available later this month. <![CDATA[DirecTV PC Tuner Photos Surface Online]]> Scans of DirecTV's PC Tuner showed up on the DBStalk forums. The tuner supposedly has two coaxial inputs, one USB output, Ethernet and USB inputs, Vista Media Center support and a DVR interface that uses your PC's HDD. No word on whether the tuner is HD or SD, but If this is the real deal, it looks promising. [DBStalk Forums]

<![CDATA[Intelligent Lantern for People Who Like Son with Their Lumiere]]> The intelligent lantern could be termed the Swiss Army Knife of flashlights—although the purists among you will probably complain that you can't file your nails, peel an orange or get a stone out of a horse's hoof with it. As well as a super-bright beam that can be seen a mile away, the nine-inch outdoor gizmo rocks stereo speakers, an AM/FM tuner, access to NOAA Weatherband and an MP3-compatible connection. There's a digital clock, and as well as running on 6 C batteries (alkaline or rechargeable) you can also run it through your vehicle's cigarette lighter or the mains. And all of this will cost you just $39.

<![CDATA[TiVo-Compatible SDV Tuner May Enable Video on Demand]]> Remember the USB connector device we pointed at a couple days ago that could bring two-way cable communication? It be this Motorola USB SDV tuning resolver. Dave Zatz explains that this tuner, which will plug into the back of your TiVo in order to enable two-way communications between your box and the cable company, will be in deployment by the end of Q2 2008, and may support video on demand in the future. Even if it does not, the point of an SDV device is to tell the cable company which channel you're watching so they can feed you only one at a time, which then lowers bandwidth, which then allows a larger selection of channels for everyone. <![CDATA[Nintendo DS TV Tuner, Finally Priced & Dated]]> Nintendo first mentioned this 1seg tuner for the Nintendo DS well over a year ago. Since then, we'd pretty much forgotten that it existed/lost any hope that it would ever actually be released. But Nintendo just announced that they will be launching the product on November 20th in Japan. The sweetness of wireless digital television will run customers $60, which isn't super cheap nor uber expensive.

Too bad the US still transmits television by chiseling likenesses into granite and flying them to viewers via an army of trained pigeons, otherwise we'd love to import one of these in November...because is it us, or do bunny ears just make the DS even cuter? [gamewatch via kotaku]

<![CDATA[Elgato Brings Network-Connected HDTV to Your Mac With HDHomeRun]]> Elgato improves on their USB High Def solution for Macs by introducing the HDHomeRun, a network-connected device that can actually service multiple machines at once. There are two ATSC (over the air or unencrypted cable but not standard cable) tuners, which means two people can watch 24 and Heroes at the same time. The whole setup runs you $199, which is kind of steep if you compare it to the $299 TiVo HD. [Elgato]

<![CDATA[Fender Keychain Tuner: Flashlight and Bottle Opener, Too]]> Whether we're playing a Stratocaster, Precision Bass or the classic amps from Fender, we guitarists have a deep respect for the revered brand and its storied instruments, and now we can wear that logo on a key fob with the Fender Keychain Tuner, a strobe-light guitar tuner that doubles as a bottle opener.

Shine its strobe light on a guitar string, crank around the tuning pegs, and when that string appears to stop vibrating, it's in tune. If you have a great ear and can tune the guitar yourself, use the thing as a flashlight, or give it to one of your bandmates as a subtle hint alluding to his questionable intonation. It's 10 bucks.

<![CDATA[Slingbox Pro, A/V, and Tuner Reviewed (Verdicts: Ya, OK, Meh)]]>
CNet's John Falcone lines up the three new Slingbox video streamers, and puts em to work.

He gives the $250 Pro model an 8.3. He likes its ability to stream high definition over the internet to PCs and Windows Mobile devices at 720p/1080i resolutions. Not to mention any video coming in through standard composite, S-vid, and coax inputs.

The $180 A/V model earns an 8.0, without legs long enough to run HD. (Just S-vid and composite are included, without a tuner.)

The $180 Tuner model gets a 7.0, with only a coax input capable of running basic cable or the dreaded bunny ears. We might have given this model a 6—We encourage the upgrading of TV setups before spending money on streamers.

<![CDATA[Three Slingbox Versions Officially Announced]]>

The Slingbox Tuner, AV, and Pro have officially been announced as the three successors to the Slingbox Classic. The Tuner and AV versions will be $180, and the Pro will be $250. If you want to know the differences, hit the jump for more info.

The Tuner version has an analog tuner for regular cable and OTA (rabbit ears), the AV has a set-top-box interface to control your cable box and DVRs, and the Pro has multiple tuners and supports the $50 HD connector to output HD signals.

Oh yeah... I might have had a few of these boxes in my house the last month or so. ;) I can tell you video quality on a LAN definitely exceeds Slingbox Classic levels and I expect it to get even better going forward. However if you'll be doing most of your Slinging remotely and have slow uplink speeds, now is a good time to pick up the original Slingbox on the cheap. I imagine once the stock runs dry, we'll see some price cuts on the new boxes before the holidays.

There should be Mac support in the next month and Symbian support soon.

<![CDATA[ATI Recalls TV Wonder 650 From Store Shelves]]> ATI's just issued a nation-wide recall of their ATI TV Wonder 650 tuner cards. They should already be off store shelves by now in retailers like Best Buy. No official reason was given, but an ATI insider says that only 30% to 50% of the already paltry 40 stated channels were functioning on these units.

ATI has told Best Buy to tell customers that a "similar product" will be released soon. If you've actually purchased one of these cards, we suggest you contact ATI to see if they can give you a refund or a replacement.

Do any readers have one? How's it holding up?
