I thought part of their success was due to the fact that they could offer lower prices not having that brick-and-mortar overhead.

It looks like it's running the Blur interface. The icons don't exactly match. Like, the Camera app doesn't have that black bar, I think, but the position is otherwise the same. And the camcorder and alarm clock icons are almost identical. The drawer looks like the smoother Blur drawer, as well.

Well, I can already tell you it will indeed have WiFi - after all, 10 kb/s on iDEN will NOT cut it for an Android device.

If this does indeed hit Sextel/Sprint/NEXTEL, sign me up... to bring it over to Boost.

@dragon:ONE: I can see this being HUGE on the Boost service, they have fairly good plans for those who don't want contracts, and I'm not sure if they have any smartphones yet (couple of Motorola QWERTYs I think, but nothing impressive). Hell, at $50/month unlimited, I might join you.

I assume that Music streaming will now be integrated into the iPod/iPhone. Since there are a number of apps that do this already will they be rejected from the itunes store for duplicating core functionality or confusing users. Please note I am not trying to start a fight here, I am asking what happens to existing approved apps when apple includes new functionality

I have a feeling they are doing this to get Lala's talent/expertise, rather than any actual use out of what Lala has established (or not established, as the case may be).

New server farm + Lala purchase + iTunes ubiquity + smartphone penetration + major label relationships = beating Spotify to the punch in the US.

I have a question. As many AT&T people probably are, I'm able to upgrade to the 3GS in two weeks.

At the same time, I also don't want to upgrade too early if there's something better coming down the pike. What's your advice, Giz commenters? Should I wait, or just get the 3GS, knowing that it will likely be just fine?

@Jeremy: Before deciding to wait for the 'next thing' determine if there is any need that the 3GS does not fill for you. If you can't think of anything, then you probably don't need to wait. It is not worth the effort of getting the newest of everything when you won't use the added features.

The iPhone 3GS came out 8 months after the first field test reports came in.

Looks like the iPhone version 4 will come out in 8 months or so.

And it just happened to be in time for me to not be eligiable for an upgrade. On November 7th, I got my 3GS and started a 2 year contract then, couldnt wait any longer for a phone.

@dagamer34: Actually, there are three tiers of pricing. Full-pop which is in the 599 dollar tier. Then you have "early-upgrade" pricing at 399 which is subsidized purely for the data revenue the plan creates. Finally, you have the 199 pricing which is fully eligible and includes subsidization for Data and Voice components of the plan. The reason people are "always ineligible" for the new iPhone is because of the yearly release. Verizon, ATT and most other carriers rely on a 18 month upgrade cycle (save for any VIP program benefits which typically don't count towards iPhones or Blackberries) and the iPhone launches about every 12 months, leaving people high and dry for about a half a year pretty regularly.
Yes, I use run-on sentences online, and yes, I am fresh out of AT&T as a sales consultant. Prior to AT&T, I worked for VZDUB.
