And here I thought they went out of business a decade ago. They're still alive? I used to work with a guy who had his house heavily stocked with X10 controllers and loved them. I think they're novel but never much felt the need to have this much control over my appliances.
That said, this remote looks awesome namely due to the "His" and 'Hers" buttons. Hilarious, yet not a bad idea!
@beartrash: I've had it work great for how I use it (lamps in apt's w/ no overhead lights) The big problem I have now is that with everything going to CF bulbs, the dimming doesn't work any more.
Is it wrong for me to question any technology that has been around since the King James era and has barely evolved since then? They had an X10 control cartridge for the VIC-20.
In a day when we want to control our entire home via a simple one buck iPhone App, is it reasonable to think we should be buying a billion RF boxes to control each device in our home separately with a barely acceptable remote control? Yes, there are a lot of add-on items for X10 technology, and I don't mean to dismiss that - but there is just something about this that seems way out of date, even to the old guy typing this.
I love my harmony. The only update I wish they would give all their remotes acroos the board is memory of the last activity that was done (and proper vizio support). I would be nice for once to do the same last activity and not have to hit the help button cause it went one input to far.
@Nassin: What sort of problems are you having with your Vizio? Is it the clunky way Vizio does Power and inputs? Have you upgraded your remote's firmware lately (not the same as updating instructions)?
@MrGutts: I have been on the fence on a Harmony One for a while, mainly due to price, but I have touchscreen durability concerns as well. However, what I find attractive is that the text is bigger and more legible on that bigger LCD. I had a 550 once that I sold to my buddy -- the text was a bit too small for me without reading glasses.
@Geraldo: I take that back. I see Amazon is actually selling the 700 at MSRP while the One is $180 (discounted) -- think BestBuy is doing the $180 price this week as well. I'm going to order the Harmony One from Amazon.
So I decided to search for this on Amazon, and found some totally different product with the same name and a product page so incoherent I thought I was on EBay:
This could be interesting... couple of months ago.
But now? Meh.
Project Natal + Mod.
Instead of having a stinking table filled with handgrease, germs and whatnot (which will also require a projector and f*ckton of money it seems), you just point to your lamp and say "LET THERE BE LIGHT!!!"
And thus thou shall have spoken, for light will be.
Until they make a way for the remote to know what is already turned on in the system they are useless. First time, no problem, turns on the tv, sound system, and cable box. Well now I want to watch a dvd, so I hit the "watch dvd" button, off goes the tv, sound system, but the dvd player turns on! Useless...
@Barry99705: You haven't got your remote set up correctly. Go back into the software and setup your DVD player again. Only items not in use should turn off.
@Barry99705: I was just logging in to say your activity wasn't setup correctly. First time after a program though you want everything off, then whatever it turns on it remembers that it had turned it on. Love my harmony 520 and 880
@Barry99705: mine doesn't do that. I think you need to tweek your settings.
... and I now see that several people beat me to letting you in on this.
I have the white xbox 360 harmony remote. it took me a good hour or 2 to set it up properly, but once I figured out how the set up works I have never had any problems with it. I LOVE it!
@Barry99705: You've obviously never used one of these remotes.
It DOES keep track of what's on and off. If you hit Watch TV, yes it would turn on the TV, AV receiver and cable box and set them to the correct inputs. Then if you hit Activities -> Watch DVD, it would turn off ONLY the cable box and turn on the DVD player and switch all of the inputs accordingly. Then when you hit Off it turns off everything that is on.
Don't bash a product unless you've personally used it. I have the Harmony One and absolutely love it. Worth every single penny.
@Barry99705:
The one thing that I didn't see anyone mention is that you have to use the remote to turn on/off everything, if you use a button on the tv, dvd player, etc. there is no way for the remote to know that and it will get screwed up.

It's never been very reliable, it would often take two or three attempts to issue an on/off or dim command.
Crap product.
