I have an unlocked iPhone 2G here in Brazil, on the Vivo network. Vivo is an official Apple carrier, but push notifications are a no go for me.
EDGE is so f'ing slow, however, that I don't care that much about it. I'm waiting for the 3GS launch to get a new model, and this time I'll get an official, factory unlocked phone.
If you don't want to encourage Apple, don't buy their products. But don't support them with your cash and THEN whine about how they do business. There is a reason they are one of the most successful brands in the world, and your money helps.
Buy Apple, support Apple and encourage their brand. If not, but some 3rd class garbage that you geek kids can hack away with.

1. No push.
2. Your push and other hactivated push messages get delivered to the wrong device.
The iphone-dev team that makes ultrasnow is working on a fix.
Remember people that hacking your device opens up features but may break official one.

The iPhone is far from perfect, but it was a wake up call to the mobile industry, that kept pushing crappy phones after identically crappy phones.
