Bit of a noob question. If I jailbreak my iphone can I still get apps from the apple app store as well as the hacked ones etc. Can I still sync up with itunes or do I have to use other apps to do this. Getting a 3GS in the morning and was just wondering. I know you cant jailbreak the 3GS yet but its only a matter of time.

I'm a bit of a retro/emulation nut so having some decent emulators would be great on the iphone

@Retroman: You can do everything that you could do prior to the jailbreak. There will be no problems with that at all.

@sweetnjoe: After jailbreaking, can you use other applications to sync music the ipod? I hate itunes with a fiery passion and would love to be able to sync music from almost any other music player out there.

I had nothing but trouble with redsn0w. It was a FAIL, three times over. I followed 2 different guides that were identical, and there were horrible issues every time. Cydia wouldn't update, gave me issues even Google wouldn't return results on; Icy was a dog, would crash immediately after launch, and each time I used redsn0w the cell signal would go from full 5 bars to none and back every :15-:45 seconds. Tried setting up as new iPhone, still issues. redsn0w=FAIL

Decided to give Pwnage Tool a try since it had always worked great on the iPhone 2G. Whaddya know, worked on the first try. Then did the ultrasn0w unlock, and no signal issues. Restored from a previous iPhone backup, and now we have just what we wanted: an iPhone 3G that has the APN Changer (housewife doesn't need iPhone data plan/data access), Winterboard themes, "Cycorder" (crappy, yes, but functional if needed), wifi access, and a legit/paid AT&T SIM in the iPhone.

Anyone else having network issues with an iPhone 3G on T-mobile. Specifically, any time it loses or acquires signal, a bunch of alert windows pop up. (3G is disabled, btw)

Hmm, total n00b question here -- I am an existing AT&T customer. If I pick up a used 3G, jailbreak it, and drop my current SIM into it, am I good to go?

I don't want/need to access the app store. I don't even need to have 3G or EVDO internet - being limited to wi-fi is perfectly fine by me. I guess I'd still like to use iTunes to sync music.

Am I ok?

@Andyr2120: You would need to unlock it rather than Jailbreak it using the UltraSnow application from the Dev Team. Outside of that, you should have no problems.

@DangerousDac: Why would he have to unlock it? If he buys a used AT&T iPhone, and is already an AT&T customer, he should just be able drop in the sim and be good. (Unless I'm missing something?)

not having a data plan wont affect your ability to download apps over wifi or through iTunes on your PC, which you could then sync.
