Update Fixes Katamari For iPhone's Slow Performance, Controls
Luke from Kotaku was right: I wanted so badly to, yes, love this game that perhaps its weaknesses—a cripplingly low frame rate and, yes, the onset of some serious tiltage needed to keep moving after the first few minutes—didn't fully sink in until I just couldn't play past the fourth level while sitting on the can (weeping). Nintendo Kills Wii Homebrew With Update, Again, Again, Again
Nowadays, any self-respecting hardware manufacturer is locked in an interminable battle to lock down their platforms for unclear reasons, because that's how things are, OK? Accordingly, Nintendo has just released a patch to prevent would-be homebrewers from enjoying their Wiis too much. Not that this is unexpected — there have been a few major developments in the homebrew space since June, when Nintendo last attempted to seal up their console. The good news: the update doesn't affect existing Homebrew Channel installs, it just prevents new ones. Oh, and it'll probably be cracked in about two days. [WiiBrew] -

The first update to the new Android-wielding G1 will be beamed OTA starting tomorrow to all G1 customers, with updates going out through October 31st. It's warned to be a very minor update, featuring various light "enhancements" and a bug fix related to Amazon songs. That's it. T-Mobile warns, "Before you go nuts, remember this is only the first [update]. Let's make sure updates download, install, and just plain work as designed before we expect them to overhaul your experience." Since we don't want our phones to explode, it's a deal. Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard Update Comes in November
Microsoft's just gone on the record with RPG-TV and said the Fall Xbox 360 Dashboard Update will be hitting in November, which technically is still a part of Fall. Previous updates have also been released in late November (as close to Winter as you could push it while still being Fall), but all those new features coming this time might be cause for delay, even though they skipped the Spring update for this reason. Seriously Microsoft, will we have to wait another three months to get the ability to make a little avatar that looks like ourselves? You're forcing us to turn on our Wiis? [RPG TV via Kotaku] -

More Signs of New Apple Notebooks Surface
Macrumors has spotted a report of a large Apple-placed order for laptop PCBs—up 20% over the current quarter's intake—as well as a stock notification to Best Buy announcing sparse MacBook shipments over the next two weeks. TiVo 9.4 Summer Update Hitting Boxes This Month
It looks like TiVo's 9.4 Summer Update has been released ahead of schedule and will supposedly be hitting every box by month's end. This update brings six new features, two of which actually seem really useful for most TiVoers. Folders will now have the option to be played or deleted, and the guide can be viewed at any time (while watching live TV, a recording, or even a download, but obviously not during menus). Since TiVo's 9.4 priority page hasn't been posted yet this update should hit your box as a total surprise while you're sleeping. [Zatz Not Funny!] -
