<![CDATA[Palm webOS 1.4 Update to Hit on the 25th, Bring Video Recording and New Speeds [WebOS]]]> It failed to materialize on the 15th, but now PreCentral's claiming the 25th will see the webOS 1.4 update come good. This is a firmware update worth writing in your diary about, bringing video recording and Flash 10.1 compatibility.

It'll also make the Pre and Pixi slightly faster, and have a few other minor changes not worth explaining. Here's hoping you've got something interesting to film come Thursday, even if it's just of an iPhone user struggling with their meager non-flash 3.0-megapixel camera. [PreCentral]

BGR explains that "according to Matt, forums manager over at Motorola, the information was prematurely released" and that "the DROID update page on Motorola's website has been pulled and all links to the update page have been deleted from the forums." [BGR]

<![CDATA[Zune Software Update Brings Xvid Support, Sort of [Zune]]]> The latest version of the Zune software, 4.2, was just released. Not all that much changed, but the update lays the groundwork for some more significant feature additions to Zune software and the Zune HD, most importantly in codec support.

Microsoft is just calling this a "maintenance" update, and there are only a couple actual changes to be seen. Most importantly, the software now supports Xvid, Divx and AVI videos, though it'll have to convert them to play on Zune hardware. However, those videos will be natively supported after another firmware update to the Zune HD, which should come this spring. So there's not much to get excited about quite yet, but it's great to see Microsoft actively supporting the Zune HD like this. [Zune]

The timeline for this fix is based on what customers are reporting they've heard from Apple Care specialists, but let's just hope that it's not only true, but that the fix makes a difference. [Apple Insider]

<![CDATA[Android 2.0.1 SDK Available, Plus Droid Getting OTA Update Soon [Android]]]> It's a minor update, but the Android 2.0.1 SDK just came out, mostly consisting of little bug fixes (Bluetooth, resource allocation, that kind of thing). Alongside that, there'll be an OTA update for the Droid in "the coming weeks."

The Android 2.0.1 update should be out by the end of the year, but Droid owners (the only ones lucky enough to play with Android 2.0 at the moment) will also get an OTA update with a few Droid-specific fixes. We're told these include improved camera autofocus (thank God) and better voice reception (although in my experience the Droid's reception is stellar). We'll let you know when it's released, which should be before New Years. [Android via Engadget]

Forum-dwellers at PreCentral are claiming the update doesn't bring much to the table, with it apparently addressing lag when using multiple programs. Mind you, considering we described the Pixi as being "brain-damaged, three-legged dog slow" in our review, it's a much-needed fix. <![CDATA[Amazon Preparing Better Kindle Ebook Management System in 2010 [Kindle]]]> Specifics have not been announced, but Amazon noted via their Kindle Facebook page that a more user-friendly, organized ebook management system will arrive as an over-the-air update in the first half of 2010.

As many Kindle owners already know, keeping a large number of books on the device can get a bit unruly—so this would be a welcome update. It's also good news for people on the fence about whether or not to get a Kindle or a Nook over the holidays. It appears that the Kindle is going to be the only game in town until after the new year.
