45% of the power of the 9V will get turned into heat in that linear regulator. Not to mention that 9V batteries have crap for capacity to start with. Do yourself a favor and build a MintyBoost if you've got a jones to build your own USB charger. #usbcharger

I walked into RadioShack to buy a female usb port for this very purpose, and the guy literally laughed at me and said "you just can stick a usb on anything and expect it to work". I facepalmed at walked out.

I hate that store now, and will never go to a radioshack ever again. #usbcharger

@phunnyballs: This is why I hate retail stores. Why I'll never shop at a great deal of stores now actually unless I can get in and out with what I need and not talk to anyone. Modern day retail ninja is what I am. #usbcharger

I like devices with more than one use (less crap to carry around). While it looks weird, its multi functional, and green so I like it.

I think saying this is for midgets is wrong and a stereotype! Besides, they are so busy getting thrown down bowling alleys, starring/filming porn, and making chocolate, when do they have time to use an iPhone?

I think it's more Hobbit size, personally.

But if I'm using it as a flashlight doesn't that drain the power and defeat the purpose of having this portable charger around to juice up my gadgets in the first place?
