Why is it that static devices don't have USB hubs (or at least one down-stream port) built in?
My keyboard sits on my desk all day long, doesn't really move much, takes up a USB port on the 'puter, and gives back nothing. I'd willingly pay $5 extra if it had a row of USB ports across the back.
My external HD sits on top of my machine, reads & writes, rarely moves, takes up a USB port, but doesn't give one back. Why not? It's even powered and could put some juice into the system.
Wasn't the whole point of USB that you could daisy-chain up to 127 of them? How come nothing's daisy-chainable? Sure, one cord hanging off the back of my mouse is annoying, I certainly don't want two, nor do I expect 'em on cameras or MP3 players, but why can't keyboards, hard drives & printers serve as hubs, as well?
@MinskyBA: So there is a row of humping dogs at the bottom that spans 5 columns of other humping dogs and rarely moves, but when one whole column of dogs stops humping this bottom row kicks in and starts humping for it? Trying to figure out out RAID would work for non-storage devices.
Good for the server room where its too warm for the computers and too cold for human life and everyone and his brother wants you to convert or upload some file or other.
