    I'm confused... why would I need a dock for a 2.5" HDD? Seems to me a 3.5" HDD dock would be more useful.

    That's actually pretty damned useful. I have one unused SATA drive I haven't put in an enclosure yet and after I strip my MacBook, I'll have a second.

    I can see this overworking your power supply, then shorting out your motherboard. But since I have an extended warranty, I would consider giving it a shot.

    The only other unappealing aspect here is that it seems kind of archaic to put a naked and exposed internal hard drive in there considering the number of small external models.


    The saving grace of this product is its price of $33.

    @vista64guy: By the looks of the power adapter tip located in between the hard drive and the USB ports, and above the text "DC5V", it might be externally powered as well, like many hubs. When they exceed the draw of regular USB, they require the unit to be powered.
