my local sprint stores do things like this for me all the time. they replaced my instinct when the screen shattered w/out question or insurance. just handed me a new phone. they did something similar with a samsung flip phone i broke in two. granted they gave me a new razr, but it wasn't done through insurance and they gave me no hassle at all. i have no complaints with my local store reps, but unfortunately they are just a small portion of sprint.
