Getec V100 Tablet PC Laughs in the Face of Danger

Getec's V100 is a tough laptop, a really tough laptop. You won't have to rely on some pathetic drop-sensor to protect this machine. In fact, you probably have to throw it down the stairs just to boot it up. It's built as a military machine, but we lucky civilians can get now one, too.

The case is magnesium alloy, and it's built so that dust, sand, rain and sub-zero temperatures won't affect it at all. It's quite well featured too, with Intel Core 2 Duo, 3G, Bluetooth and GPRS as well as a claimed six-hour battery life. The price hasn't been released, but is guaranteed to be big. [T3]

Ainol V100 MP3 Player Emulates NES, SNES and Sega Genesis

The Ainol V100 isn't just an MP3 and video player with a gorgeous 2.5-inch QVGA screen, it emulates old school NES and Sega games as well. Inside its brushed metal body, there's a ADI Blackfin processor running at 400MHz which plays back NES ROMS, SNES ROMS and Sega Genesis ROMS along with MP3s, WMAs, FLAC and AVIs. Of course getting those ROMS through backdoor channels isn't too hard, but they're of questionable legality.

We're not sure how SNES games will be played with only four buttons, but thems the breaks. There's also only 512MB of space on the drive, which makes us suspect things are kind of tight over at Ainol.

Creative MuVo V100, A Simple Upgrade

Introducing the Creative MuVo V100, an upgrade from the V200 ... wait, what? The V200 gets upgraded and it is called the V100. I think that is the problem with your daps, Creative. The bigger the number the better, you should have learned that by now.

The V100 is a small upgrade. It has a longer battery life of 18 hours, is a bit thinner and has a capacity up to 2GB. Nothing too spectacular, but still nice to have the bigger capacity. – Travis Hudson

Lenovo, the guys who ate IBM, just had their 12-inch subnotebook groped by PC World. The V100 is hideous, it really is — I'd call it the Super Chunk of light computing. Everyone laughs at it. But everyone stopped laughing after the benchmarks. Why? This, and why you might consider buying this machine, after the jump.

This ultraportable model comes in at a lower cost than the flagship ThinkPad X60s—and it doesn't match its pricier sibling's excellence of design. Most notably, the keyboard took a little getting used to, and we hated the ultrastiff mouse buttons, to the point that we found it necessary to switch to an external mouse...
[But] its performance rocked the house, earning the V100 a high-flying WorldBench 5 score of 93, the third-best result that we've seen for an ultraportable.

Lenovo V100 Weighs In

Lenovo is stepping up to the plate again to offer an innovative laptop that is interestingly deceiving to the eye. This ultraportable laptop appears to be a little thick, but weighs in at only four pounds. It includes a 12.1-inch WXGA VibrantView screen, Core Duo processor, and all of the other usual goodies. These machines should be available in early June with prices beginning around $1,000.

Big news from Lenovo/IBM. They just launched the C100 Available and expect the V100 Ultraportable and N100 Widescreen to be available later this year. C100 will sell for a surprising $599 and weighs about 6 pounds. The N100 is a widescreen model and the V100 has a 12-inch screen and is the baby of the bunch. All of them are available with glossy screens, which means Lenovo is quite clearly moving into the multimedia world and out of the office.
