Aircell has just launched its US in-flight wi-fi service called "gogo" and they claim it will be available in the first half of 2008. Virgin America and American Airlines have both signed on to use gogo but it looks like Virgin America is the only airline taking the service seriously.

Virgin America has been retrofitting their entire fleet with the necessary hardware whereas American Airlines is only running a trial on 15 planes. The service will bring a 2Mbps EVDO Rev. A connection and will actually be upgradeable to Rev. B or faster hardware in the future. So what's the fee for this magical in-flight service? Cross-country flights will cost $12.95 and shorter flights of 3 hours or less will be $9.95.

As for what limitations the airlines will set is still not clear, but with a spring launch, 2Mbs connection, and near $10 fee we can't help but be all hyped-up, so much so it's making us scream, "Let's gogo go!"[gogo via gigaom]

<![CDATA[ New Sony Vaio Laptops with Added Santa Rosa Goodness Leaked ]]>

Sony is going for a pretty significant update of its laptops this summer. Pictured above is the 15.4-inch Vaio FZ19, which will use Intel's Santa Rosa chipset and integrated X3100 graphics card. There's also the TZ, a retread of the current TX series, which will be an ultra-portable number with 11.1-inch screen, and a refresh of the SZ4 called the SZ5.

July will see a couple more models - the CZ series, which boast a 13.3-iunch screen, and the CR, a 14-inch widescreen notebook. Both of these have unknown specs, but I guess we will know more soon. There's no picture of the TZ, which sounds like the most interesting of the lot, but its specs are after the jump.

TZ specs
integrated DVD-DL
2GB of RAM
100GB HD
WLAN A/B/G
Fingerprint scanner
Integrated WebCam

No prices either, I'm afraid.

<![CDATA[ First Sub-$500 Vista Laptop: But Why? ]]>
The Everex Stepnote VA4101M, offered by Wal-mart, is the world's first Vista-loaded laptop priced under $500 (if you consider the drab Aeroless Vista Basic to be true Vista).

Sporting a 15.4" screen, 1.46Ghz Celeron M processor, 512MB RAM and a 60G HD, this is a fine machine for the price, as long as you take it home and load up your old version of Windows. Actually, scratch that. I've seen how these Wal-mart deals butcher XP, so just avoid them entirely for the time being. This is the tech equivalent of me, with a bucket of Crayolas and a coloring book, claiming to replicate Monet's Waterlilies...except worster.
