@marm0lade: I personally don't like the Macbook Air either, but I do love its design and how all other (cheaper) Macbooks got its best qualities. But even as opposed as I am to even considering buying a Macbook Air, the only thing that even comes close to justifying the price tag is the better-than-some SSD, which I imagine comprises a pretty big chunk of the asking price. GSP and Verizon Mobile module do not warrant a $1,500 price tag, when it has a processor that a $350+ netbook has.
No, I refuse to believe that this thing is anywhere near being worth $1,500. I will admit, after actually holding and using one for a bit, it really feels svelter than a lot of the other netbooks out there, but I suppose I've become completely spoiled by the general pattern that netbooks introduced. Inexpensive, albeit at the cost of power to make up for the fact that it's too big to pocket, and not big enough to do full-blown prolonged computing, and small enough to slip into just about any bag without hassle. At $1,500, I'd rather get a 13" laptop with a proper full sized keyboard and better specs and sacrifice some of the portability, but that's just me.
$1500 seems reasonable for what you are getting. Thats a lot of hardware per inch. The P follows the Ultra portable model where you are paying a lot to get a really small full computer.
@ShakuntalaBabble: Before you get all snotty, Mr Babble, you should know a little more about what you're talking about. There are big differences in SSD write/read speeds depending on the manufacturer. I know because my HP Mini 1000 has a super slow SSD, and I'm looking to upgrade it to a runcore.
I'm not saying that I know anything in particular about the SSD in the improved Sony netbook, but I do remember that the one in the older model was supposed to be pretty fast.
$100 is a likely a serious misunderestimation. Even a simple sleeve costs $150 from them, and a custom case for something like this is more likely to run $300 and up.
Those damned Chinese, taking our prised IBM Thinkpad and coming up with even sexier designs. That thing looks sassy. It would probably be completely unusable given the aspect ratio, but none the less -- exceptionally sassy.
@jonaswan2: But you can find a good netbook for $300 - the HP Mini 1000 being my personal choice. Well, to be perfectly honest the sub-$300 version isn't great, but with a screen upgrade to 10.1" and a few other tweaks you can get a decent machine for $350.
This Lenovo looks pretty good, but I'm guessing it'll be in the "premium netbook" category somewhere around $600.
@vx2: you certainly can spend that much, but my preferred configuration runs just $335 - 16GB SSD, 10.1" screen, 512 MB RAM and Linux. If you skip the RAM upgrades offered through HP you can get yourself a 2GB chip for $20 from NewEgg, bringing the price to around $355. Same configuration with XP runs $370 before adding your own RAM.

What? VAIO? What the hell is that?
Nothing else matters, at this point.

When apple does something fucking stupid like this, it's called "innovation".
When sony does it, it's "not worth the money".

The Sony Tax is the equivalent of the Apple Tax for PCs, except the difference here is that the Sony Tax is almost never worth paying for.

there are only so many SSD manufacturers out there, and regardless of the LOGO on the outside, the inside components are pretty much all the same.
