I had kind of hoped these things (or something like it) would be available off-verizon, and would be hacked for their home computer potential (think a touchscreen pc + x10 kind of capabilities, plus the phone/internet angle). What would be even better is if something like what I described would be affordable enough to install around your house (living room, kitchen, bedroom, etc.), and be networked (or part of a system), so that you can leave family messages, view the family calendar, that kind of thing.
@farcedude: Ehh, Thats not happening anytime soon farce dude. With our high prices of that kind of computers, we will not be able to support or even come close to affording these types of computers
@robots199: I know. Doesn't mean I can't want it, right? Even just touch screens powered by a central computer (wouldn't have to be that expensive). I'm already looking into someday computerizing my house (put sensors and controllers on anything and everything), so I'm just hoping something cool comes along.
Can't speak to the benefits of this phone, but landlines, be they regular or VOIP, corded or cordless, are still nice to have. You don't have to worry about where you left your cel phone when you've got a phone in every major room. You don't have to cluster around a cel phone running in speakerphone mode when several people on one end want to be on the line at the same time. And if you're not running VOIP and your broadband modem goes out, you still have the option of resorting to dial-up so you can check your e-mail and stuff.
The Hub is a landline slayer launched in a wireless world, where the landline is almost dead.
I hate being the one to point this out, but by no means is the landline almost dead. Maybe if you're in your mid 20's, sharing a one bedroom apartment with a couple of people you met on Craig's List, maybe then the landline is almost dead. However, to the rest of the country the landline is as strong as ever.
Where I see the Hub having a real appeal is as a computer replacement to all the people out there that only use the computer they have now a couple time a week for email and some light web surfing.
Could I put in an order for a big touchscreen computer (waterproof) for my kitchen? I already have a cellphone, so it doesn't need to call anyone. kthx.
I'm confused by this. It seems to be pretty much a home phone with the Verizon equivalent of a large iPhone built into it. How is this different than, say, my current home phone sitting next to my laptop?

I love the way you worded that!

The great thing is that today I can do all of that with a phone that fits in my pocket!
I love progress!

That said, it needs Skype. I no longer have any use for the videoconferencing, but I do use the phone portion of it a great deal.

Seems to me that that would be the killer app.

I might just have to wander down to the Verizon Store to try this out..
