Another reason is that most of them look like shite. But this one, the Vestax Guber CM-02, is gorgeous. Delishy-wishy. It totally poops on last week's non-usb, acrylic home-made versions (sorry Mike) and, oh, I've got a warm feeling this Friday morning and am going to think about that weekend I'll spend converting all my old 12" into files when I buy this. DJ Deals has it for $499, but our buds over the pond at Gizmodo Japan say it's on for $233. [Gizmodo Japan through Google Translate]

<![CDATA[ Vestax VCI-100 Mixer Modded with Arcade Game Buttons ]]> Here's what you do if you think your Vestax mixer looks dull as day-old dog doo: mod it. One of the guys from DJ Tech Tools swapped his boring old black knobs for arcade game buttons. How-to video is after the jump.

<![CDATA[ In Love With the DJ: IDJ2 iPod Mixer and VCI-100 MIDI Interface ]]> Judging by some of my previous posts, I know more than a few of you are into that whole dance music/club scene. So when one of the guys from Beatport writes in and tells me that he sat down with two as yet unmentioned DJ decks, I admit, there was a little bit of a rise. The Numark IDJ2 iPod mixer (pictured here) is still being worked on and it kind of shows. Apparently, BPM readouts aren't exactly what you'd call "accurate," and the platters were about as stable as Jason Chen. Mixer quality was decent, though.

The next deck comes to us from Vestax and is given the highly intuitive name of the VCI-100. Here, all mixing is handled by software—Traktor 3 LE—and there's enough on-board MIDI controls to satisfy just about everybody, save for that prima donna Tiesto. Now who wants to go see Paul van Dyk next month in New York with me?

<![CDATA[ Vestax Portable Turntable Lets You Spin 45s from the Road ]]> Vestax_Handy_Trax.jpg I've always been a fan of vinyl, and while the thought of a portable record player sounds cool, something about this player tells me I shouldn't keep my expectations too high. But for $169, the belt-driven Handy Trax Portable Black Limited Edition lets you play your scratchy vinyl collection (33, 45, and 78 RPM vinyls) from anywhere on the road. It can even be powered by batteries and the built-in speaker means you don't have to worry about connecting it to any components. Tempting, but I'll stick with my Debut III for now.

<![CDATA[ Vestax Turntable Plays Musical Notes ]]>
Turntable as musical instrument? Think Thomas Edison designing the Mellotron, instead. Phono maker Vestax has fitted a new turntable with really elaborate pitch control. Press buttons, move a fader, or adjust a foot pedal, and you can change the speed to get specific musical pitches (with the fader or pedal, you can even bend notes). The confusing Japanese product page seems to suggest you should use a record with just one note on it, like strings, voice, or a sine wave. (Vestax Japan's diagram after the jump.)-P. Kirn
