Javier Laspiur made this series of pictures showing the evolution of video game controllers throughout history. I played with most of these, even the 1983 Teletenis, and it feels like it was yesterday. It's been quite a journey that's not over yet. I can't wait to see what the future of video games will bring next.
Chances are you've got some old video game controllers sitting in your closet somewhere. A good-old PlayStation Dual Shock, maybe a N64 controller, or some Donkey Konga Bongos. When I look at the Splitfish FragFX Shark controller, I don't even know what to think. There's a mouse with Xbox buttons on the side, a nunchuk-esque 'thingy' that looks like a controller chopped in half and it's all supposed to come together to give a PC feel to games on the 360.
Natal may be the latest gaming breakthrough, but it's just one of many evolutions and revisions in controller designs over the years. Whether it was the gamepad, analog controls, or a fishing rod, there have been plenty of neat innovations.
