The moral of the story is to get AppleCare always, because Apple will rape you if you don't. Just figure it into the price (and sure, it means that Apple gear is definitely overpriced, without question) if you want the shiny hotness.

Sounds just like me. I keep getting a defective battery over and over again. I'm on my 4th one right now for my Macbook Pro, and it's at 72% health with only 23 cycles. Guess it's time for a 5th one now. YARGH!

This seems different from the "beta culture" which describes shipping products with actual and obvious shortcomings, without any intention of fixing it ("well of COURSE you're supposed to reboot every day!")
Apple admits this problem is a defect and intends to fix it. It's obviously better to no have the hassle, but if the company stands behind their products and will offer a free fix, does that still fit the definition of "beta"?

Are you actually serious? Are you familiar with QA processes at all? "Long-term interactivity"? According to the information available, it only requires starting up a game and playing until the problem is triggered. In theory, these things go through longer and harder test than this. Or do they?

But the revolution against beta culture asks: WHY do we have to patch it in the first place?
Add new features, expand, etc. yes. But why have to deal with obvious problems that shouldn't exist if the product has been throughly tested, like in this case?
