    did anyone else notice it seems to be the only viewscreen that captures the top of the ship was well? camera appears to be fixed up top instead of up front. with that -- can they rotate the camera around to view 360 degrees?

    @You gonna eat that?_Nick: That's what I'm thinking but it also makes it easy to take down the Enterprise, one hit to that camera and it's game over..

    @bonedog73:

    You don't even need a camera...you can do it all with sensors, the viewscreen is a luxury. Anyway, these magical sensors are what supply the screen anyway, not cameras as we now think of them.

    @TheCrudMan: well, i wouldn't call it a luxury. you need the screen for video conferencing.

    If your ship has a holodeck, wouldn't the idea of a fixed screen modeled after the set of Wolf Bllitzer's "The Situation Room" be... anachronistic?

    26 feet wide? Cripes, how many stuck pixels would it take on that thing before the manufacturer replaces it.. in the future of course.

    In the future, there will be no stuck pixels.

    @ImTheGarbageman: Now that you mentio it, I never noticed that no matter how badly the enterprise got damaged, nothing ever seemed to happen to the bridge display!

    They shoulda just made the entire ship outta that!

    Why don't they just wear goggles that simulate a Mega Wide Screen?

    @bleuray vs. honeydijondvd: Deep Space 9 - the Jem Hardar Ships used something like that to look round the entire ship.

    but why stop at a ring of a viewscreen, why not make it a view dome? since you are floating in space you need total 360 view to see what's below you and what is above you.

    Maybe they'll reserve that for the neo-star trek voyager....

    @victorkruger: You know, I never understand why all the ships seem to fly on the same plane. Did the Enterprise ever approach a ship that was flying upside down from its perspective?

    @crackblind: Tactical reasons. Because armaments such as phasers are placed along a certain plane, it would be more advantageous to align the ship with the other ship's attack plane. You could have a non-planar ship too, I suppose, but that would make the ship very impractical and unnatural.
