Oh yeah and most important feature iPhone is WAY behind the on is Push Notifications, BlackBerry has had that forever! I switched from my iPhone 3G to a Bold and don't ever see me going back unless they come out with alot more!
@appletoad: T-Mobile has visual voice mail. I have it activated on my T-Mobile G1. They had to put me on a different data plan though. Before I was the plan specific to the G1, now I'm on a generic android plan. I had to call to get them to do it, too.
@Sam Adams: Seriously. I think it's great though that the Bold is finally getting this feature though. In general, I want all phones to eventually have this feature because I think it's pathetic that phone companies are still forcing their customers to use their crummy voicemail inbox service over the phone. Hopefully, services like Google Voice will help this as well.

I have actually been having this issue on and off for the past year, it started occurring about the time i moved from Chicago to the Washington DC area.
I seems to happen where ever I am, even if I have full service at the time someone leaves me a voice mail. Typically messages are delayed a couple hours, occasionally days. It almost cost me a job at one point.
I was originally told that the problem was hardware related, but of course the apple warranty expired a couple days before hand. and i was unwilling to pay to get a new phone.
Man that is ridiculous! If the iPhone was on Sprint you wouldn’t have to worry about such foolishness as their network was built for millions and millions more users than they hav…
On a serious note these exclusivity deals are ridiculous. While I have no desire to carry around a phone this large (I always have a laptop anyway) my wife would love to have one. Too bad I don’t ever plan on leaving Sprint (yes I’m one of the rare people that has NEVER had an issue that couldn’t be resolved in a 2 minute phone call).
i got this message from att today. Important AT&T FREE MSG: Your off-network wireless data usage is violating the terms of your contract. Please contact us.
(i have an unlimited data plan and I have been living and using my iphone in this area for alomost a year.
@doul0s: I think thats about how long it takes them to figure it out. When the first iPhone came out I was just going to get it and use it roaming and the guy at the store said it would work for about a year.
I find that voicemails left at a time when my phone was out of service range only show up when a voicemail is left when the phone is in service range.
Therefore as a possible work around I leave myself a message after I've been in the basement or put the phone in airline mode for a meeting, etc.
This seems to be a workable patch, but having to diagnose the problem and solve it my self suck. But what do you expect from ATT? MMS ... ? Hello? When is android going to catch-up to the features of the iphone?
This problem raises an interesting issue: How reliant everyone is on their cellphone these days. If it ever came up for a bailout, I bet ATT would be deemed too big to fail. So unfortunately, I'm guessing they won't be going anywhere.
I wonder how the visual voicemail T-Mobile will be rolling out for their android phones this summer will work out. I suppose if it does anything it will automatically be better than this.
@tande04 mile island in the sun: It does when there are others corroborating his claims. Just because your bedroom might not be filled with smoke, doesn't mean the house isn't on fire.
@brianesser76: ya that's the idea. I've always been told that if I'm not having the problem it must not exist (/sarcasm). I just think a lot of these comments stating that because of this post people are ditching their iPhones (most probably don't even have them to begin with) indicates that they werent experiencing the problem but now that Giz posts it.....it's a MEGA big deal
@tande04 mile island in the sun: I believe the word you're looking for is anecdotal, and yes it does. One person not having a problem is no more substantial than one person having a problem, and in this case there are numerous people who are having problems.
I don't know if its particular to a locality or what, but I've experienced the problem a number of times in the last two weeks or so, as have others that I know with an iPhone. On at least one occasion I was supposed to meet up with someone and we literally both left messages for each other and neither one got the message until hours later, so we didn't meet - and we were both peeved at the other for not calling.
This is a big problem, particularly for those in cities where they may be out of coverage areas (in the subway, for instance) and not might know they've missed a call. It's also a problem because with visual voicemail there's no number to call to verify that you have no messages. Or at least I don't know of one. So if you think you might have messages but they're not displayed in VM then you just have to sit tight to see what comes later.
I'm calling AT&T right now to complain. This is a big issue and I'm certainly not going to pay them all that money for this kind of service.
@brianesser76: Thats true, its just not a valid comparison.
Adam asked a whole bunch of people he knew and they were complaining. There have been just as many people here saying they have no problem.
If it really was a wide spread network wide problem I imagine there would be more about it. Sounds like Adam is having a localized problem.
@weatherman: That would explain why I couldn't find it in google. I wasn't even close with the spelling.
My point is the same as yours. Its a big step from saying "hey maybe this is a NY thing" to "the entire system is broken". There are just as many people saying theirs works fine (and all of their friend's works fine) as there are saying its broken.

At the point of failure the FCC would take over day-to-day operations of their network.
It doesn't matter if you're AT&T or some little ma and pa local telco for a rural community.
