My newest brainstorming obsession: Dialing my Google Voice number and using my GV voicemail as a speech-to-text note taker. It's very accurate, and then later I can forward the text portion via gmail or SMS (or copy it into Documents to Go on my G1 for making PDFs), and also save the mp3 of my ramblings for future reference. It may not be what they intended, but it helps to get my thoughts organized. #googlevoicevoicemail
@jackburnt: I get voicemails within a few seconds of them being left. Also, the text transcriptions are nearly flawless. I Use the official Google Voice app on my G1, with T-Mobile as my carrier. #googlevoicevoicemail
@Jgonzo: If you are serious, I'd like to give it a try. As long as I don't have to provide my name, address, credit card number, social security number and birth date. #googlevoicevoicemail
@Bs Baldwin: You can save each voicemail as an mp3 via the Google Voice inbox. On my G1 handset the audio portionof the GV voicemail is saved to the SD card in the folder "gv-voicemail" as an mp3 file which can be copied, renamed, sent as an attachment, or edited in an app, etc. #googlevoicevoicemail
@met2art: yeah, i know i can save w-mails that are already in my gv inbox, but I can't easily get my existing voicemails with verizon saved on my pc. #googlevoicevoicemail
This feature has been available to those who've figured it out on their own for as long as GV has been in existence. This is just Google deciding to legitimize it. #googlevoicevoicemail
@milrtime83: What I'm saying is that this has been doable the entire time. This isn't Google adding a feature, it's Google publicizing a feature built into every cellphone already. You could just as easily enter your landline number in lieu of your GV and have your calls forwarded to your home voicemail using the same procedure. #googlevoicevoicemail
@AqueousBeef: Yes, you could always forward missed calls to any number. I was under the impression that what they added was the ability to forward to Google voice without tieing up your own individual GV number. If, in setting this up, they still give you your own individual number then you are correct, it didn't add anything. #googlevoicevoicemail
On that note, I got 3 more Google Voice invites and 20 more Google Wave invites for needy friends! A night to become popular indeed. #googlevoicevoicemail
@chauncy that billups: It takes a while, seems to be pretty random I guess. I started out with nothing as well and only noticed that I had invites to give out tonight. #googlevoicevoicemail
this doesn't really do anything. it just has your phone forward all calls to your gv number... you don't actually get voicemail to your phone anymore... #googlevoicevoicemail
@ihaveabu: No. It reroutes from your carrier's voicemail servers to GV. That way you get a lot of the perks of GV without having to switch your number. #googlevoicevoicemail
@Mack Powers: Has Kovacs updated it yet? I haven't used it since they were having the really bad "constantly log you out and refuse your credentials" bug a while back. #googlevoicevoicemail
Oh yeah and most important feature iPhone is WAY behind the on is Push Notifications, BlackBerry has had that forever! I switched from my iPhone 3G to a Bold and don't ever see me going back unless they come out with alot more!
@appletoad: T-Mobile has visual voice mail. I have it activated on my T-Mobile G1. They had to put me on a different data plan though. Before I was the plan specific to the G1, now I'm on a generic android plan. I had to call to get them to do it, too.
@Sam Adams: Seriously. I think it's great though that the Bold is finally getting this feature though. In general, I want all phones to eventually have this feature because I think it's pathetic that phone companies are still forcing their customers to use their crummy voicemail inbox service over the phone. Hopefully, services like Google Voice will help this as well.
