It's not that these headphones won't work with anything else– only that the remote and mic won't work.
Apple's been adding the remote compatible headphone jack to all of their products lately– I think it even works with the newer macbooks.
It doesn't break "listening" compatibility and adds cool functionality if you happen to be using an Apple product.
I use my Apple remote headphones all the time with standard 3.5mm headphone jacks all the time, the remote is so small you hardly notice it and it's nice to have it built in when something is compatible.
@SigmundWellwood: No, it doesn't break listening compatibility, but volume and simple play/pause function doesn't work on a lot of products you'd expect it to. Not a dealbreaker, since they're still nice headphones, but still a notable drawback.
And yeah, it does work with the newer unibody MacBooks.
@bosskev: I would say it was more like tunnel vision as it relates to the "war on terror." But that's better than the tunnel vision of our current president as he stares deep into our pockets.
@bosskev: Ha, good one!
@mikeness: So you're saying that it was better with the old president not caring about money, basically throwing it out of the window, than with Obama cutting down on expenses in any possible way? Wow…
@jbaranski: "...politics? Leave it alone and talk about photography please."
Alrighty.
Here we see an amazing photograph taking advantage of dramatic lighting, capturing the subject in a dynamic, thoughtful pose. The distant spotlights, coupled with the framing of the figure from a low-angle vantage point, suggest a powerful stage presence, while the black background keeps the location timeless and universal. In sum, here's a photo that, through its art, presents a commanding persona that has captured the respect of the public.
And, as such, this photo also serves to remind us how, like statistics, photos do not necessarily have anything to do with the truth.
And some of these folks--like a certain RB just above you--I have no idea WTF they are talking about. I mean, I can see it's meant to be some kind of slam against me (I think), but past that it could just be output from that one lucky monkey on a typewriter.
Does it seems calloused to ask why a blind man would want to take pictures? To look at later? Share his visual reflections? Seriously, I must be missing something here. Or else this is a medicine show testimonial...

If this is how things are going to go without Jobs at the helm, I think I am going to have to increase my prayer vigils to four times a day. I am sure this idea sounded great by the fourth hit, but really -- no salad in the office anymore, guys.
I just watched the video on Apple.com showing off how it works, and just from the 3 seconds it had of a computer voice reading the music I was already annoyed. I think this is a bad idea. I think the (now) last gen iPod shuffle was just right. We're getting closer and closer to the iMac Wheel every day.

It's a pity, but I guess I will get those premium Apple buds after all if that's the case.

I would hope he admits it. Any photographer would say that the iPhone's camera is pitiful.
Nice story, though.
