Broke your kid's heart because you didn't like the games on the kids game system. Heartwarming.
My daughter has the v.smile.. works fine, graphics look like crap, but she loves it. It's entirely possible that 4 year olds don't care as much about how games look as their parents do.
I bought one for my nephew for Christmas. He seems to like it a lot. It's not like I'm going to be playing it. Even if the graphics were top-of-the-line, kick ass, graphics, the games are learning games for toddlers. Most Wii games are for entertainment purposes only and are not educational.
I've beaten several games on the Philips-CDi, so crappy graphics and shitty gameplay have never bothered me that much.
@MudkipNDS: Now That's What I Call FireWire!: I've beat the Wand of Gamelon. I don't have the other two. But since playing anyone of those games automatically takes away a third of your life I'm afraid to play the other two.
Elaine Chow needs to chillout and realize that she writes for a tech blog. She is not a journalist and we have no interest in these kind of stories here.
No doubt the incident is grave, but nevertheless not appropriate as a Gizmodo article. Is the tech world going so slow that Giz has to resort to sensationalism? Where would be to boundary then?
On the other hand, what the hell were the other customers in that coffee place doing?
*sarcasm* I thought that there was a no weapons policy on that campus */sarcasm*
one bystander with a concealed weapons permit could have prevented this young woman's death. Criminals and Psychopaths will carry weapons regardless of the law, why take away the right to defend oneself in an area that seems to be a target for attacks.
@stampedingchipmunk: In this case, bystanders could've thrown a chair at him or something. It's not like he was carrying a gun and could've shot them. Your gun connection's even more tenuous than this story's connection to gizmodo.
@Elaine Chow: they could have and should have, but he was carrying a deadly weapon. They may not have interfered for fear that knife would beat chair. People need to take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. I could not have stood idly by and watched a girl get decapitated in front of me.
The point is, the bystanders did NOTHING, even though anyone could have used anything to prevent the murder from continuing. A murderer with only a knife can only do so much until someone stops him. They could have THROWN something at the guy, for Christ's sake, but they didn't. Allowing concealed weapon permits would NOT have helped in this situation.
@dangster: Yep, someone should have done SOMETHING. I don't know that you can really blame people for standing there in a stunned manner. Unless you're trained to do differently, or too stupid, it's the usual natural reaction.
I've smacked a guy in the head w/ a blunt object before for hitting his woman. This? This I'm 99% sure I'd have killed the guy myself.
@some_stupid_nut: So this isn't the same school that the 2007 shootings occurred in? Even the AP (see linked story) doesn't acknowledge the full name of the university. (And the article is an *updated* version!)
Therefore, I assume there's no relationship between this and the other VA Tech, yet individuals are under the impression (see this article) that it's the same school/campus. I can't blame them; the AP seems to have done some pretty shoddy reporting.
@zimzombie: If you read the linked article in the second paragraph, which talkes about the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech, Wilson says, "Virginia Tech has special significance to us because of its many contributions to technology, and the world of gadgets."
lol silly zimzombie...don't you know elaine chow will never pass up a good chance to bash china even though it has NOTHING to do with gadgets? lol don't you know elaine chow will find a way to make china look bad even if china cured cancer?
of course she's not attacking CHINA per say, but chinese PEOPLE as in mainlanders which the murderer was in this case. shame shame shame elaine hating on her own people. twinkie!
@KaitouKID: Dude, what is your problem? When I post something on China that's negative, it's because it's legitimately a problem there and I take care to respond to comments I think are unfair.
When something's awesome, like the SWFC, or gadget shopping, or the Lenovo OPhone. I post that stuff too. But your oversensitive ass never seems to realize it.
This post is about two students at Vatech. I didn't make value judgments on either of them or their nationalities. That was you.
@Trowble (XBL/PSN): Using that logic, Gizmodo should start featuring articles on how to post to Twitter from your gadgets... because, well, after all, it's about tech and you can use your gadgets to post to the service!
But no -- I just don't see a good connection here, though I hadn't heard of the story elsewhere. At first, however, I thought I was reading this from another publication in my RSS feed. It did cause me to take a second glance when I saw it came from Giz.
Sorry, but @zimzombie is right. In fact, I came to this post to see if there were comments reflective of how I felt. I'm glad that others share in this sentiment.
And @KaitouKID, in Elaine's defense, your first comment was totally unnecessary.
@zimzombie: A E I O U, called vowels. Use them. They are your friends. Are those few extra saved keystrokes worth looking ignorant? Reminds me of ebonics. I do, however, agree. Why is this article on here?
@dotScott: @nunyazz: @mgtube: I know Gizmodo hides it by putting the link to it RIGHT NEXT TO THE COMMENT, but this is called Disemvowling. You will notice a little "a" which links to this page, try clicking the link: [i.gizmodo.com]
@Elaine Chow: Seriously, Elaine, how does KaitouKID not get disemvoweled/banned for making such a ass-faced statement, yet the firt poster who made a legit (if oft-repeated) concern as to the article's relevancy?
I'm astounded that posts regarding relevance to topic get disemvoweled (as if by some sort of Giz thought-police who discourage double plus ungood anti-Giz sentiment) yet assats like KaitouKID simply get a finger-wagging and stern talking-to.
What the fuck is up with this sort of inconsistency and rampantly weak-willed ban-hammerage?
@SWM,30-iso-SWF_GitEmSteveDave: So, if I'm understanding you, zimzombie was disemvowled for not using vowels. How does that happen? So confused. ;)
@hnkelley: KaitouKID hasn't (yet) been disemvoweled because Elaine obviously felt it was a more effective rebuke to respond to it than to gut it.
@Tamar Weinberg and others: Why must stories on Giz have to pass a relevance test? Giz is a blog in which techy writers share their interests. Requiring every post to conform to a gadget review would make it not Giz. Consistency is the hobgoblin of little blogs. Or something.

second, my dad recently had a stroke and this vtec would be PERFECT for him.
the other two kids (6 & 4) are all about wii fit and mario kart wii.
that is all...

Oh noes. I'm a middle aged man, and I don't enjoy playing a device designed for toddlers. Whatever am I going to do.

Just very southern and conservative.
Oh I got multiple annoying texts about 45 min after my sister told me.
Oh and for those who do not know, its "Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University", not Virginia Tech University.

This make me about as sick as Canadian bus decapitation that was coincidentally also perpetrated by a Chinese immigrant.
What a horrific way to die and I just don't understand how much anger and narcissism it would take to do that.
Poor Girl!!
