Sony Pushes Out Three New Walkman Phones, the W302, W902 and W595

It's the third birthday of Sony Ericsson's Walkman phone label, and to celebrate it's launching three new music-based cellphones. The W302 and W902 (left, center in the image) are both candybar cells, with the 302 having an FM radio, and 2-megapixel cam, and the 902 with a 5-megapixel cam and apparently matching the high audio quality of the W980 phone. The W595 is a slide phone with built-in stereo speakers so users can "share sounds with their friends" (read: annoy passers-by with irritating tunes) but it also has twin jacks so you can share music privately. All four phones are quad-band GSM, have "shake control," come in a selection of colors and will hit the streets at the end of the year. Press release below, which also details some new accessories like wireless portable speakers. More »

AT&T-Branded Sony-Ericsson W350a Mysteriously Appears On eBay

It looks like the Sony-Ericsson W350a is coming to AT&T later this year. One of the handsets has appeared mysteriously on eBay with AT&T branding. It's not a super-new phone, but the fact that it's got the AT&T logo is something interesting. Was this a demo phone? A loaner from SE? Will AT&T carry the phone in the near future? We don't know, but Sony-Ericsson fans have just perked up their ears. [PhoneNews]

Reminder: Sprint Palm Treo 800w and Verizon LG Chocolate 3 Available Now

Both Palm's Treo 800w (for Sprint) and LG's Chocolate 3 (for Verizon) are on sale right now, a day earlier than their original release dates. The Treo 800w is $250 with a two-year contract and rebate, or $600 without. Chocolate 3 is $129.99 w/ contract. [Sprint, Verizon]

Palm Treo 800w Prematurely Sold at Sprint Stores for $350

At least a few Sprint stores loosed Palm's Windows Mobile-powered Treo 800w early, for $350 with a two-year contract and rebate. It's still $600 without. Specs confirmed by field reports: Wi-Fi, EV-DO Rev. A, GPS, 320x320 screen and a 2MP camera. The keyboard is apparently improved, with a lower profile, which goes with the 800w's thinner design. Maybe if you're nice, your local Sprint store will let one go now too. [WM Experts via Electronista]

Leaked Sprint Roadmap Shows Palm Treo 800W, BlackBerry Curve And Possibly the HTC Touch Pro

Here's an alleged upcoming Sprint roadmap for Q3 2008 that shows several interesting phones and several lowbies. What you're probably looking forward to is the Palm Treo 800W and the BlackBerry Curve in red on July 13, but there's also the blue LG Rumor, MotoRAZR VE20, Sanyo Katana Eclipse, Samsung M320, Samsung M220, Moto Renegade V950, HTC MP6950 and Moto i365. The HTC MP6950 sticks out to us since the current HTC Touch is the MP6900, so this probably makes it the Touch Pro with slide-out keyboard. We'd definitely want one of those. [Sprint Users]

Verizon Gets Rhapsody Subscriptions, DRM-Free Downloads

Verizon customers with certain VCAST phones have some new options for buying music, thanks to Rhapsody. First off, the $15 per month, all-the-songs-you-can-guzzle subscription service is offered on LG's Decoy and Dare, Moto's W755 and Samsung's SCH-u550, Glyde, and Juke, and will be available for the Chocolate 3 when it's out. Also, $2 over-the-air download tracks now come with a DRM-free MP3 version that you can snag on your computer with VCAST/Rhapsody software. If you can hold your horses and wait till you're on a PC to download, DRM-free tracks are yours for a buck, which can be sideloaded onto the phone like usual. Press release after the jump. Treo 800W Heading to Sprint on July 13th for $600

We already know plenty about the upcoming WM 6.1 powered Treo 800W, but if a leak obtained by Phone Arena is correct, the device will be available to corporate customers starting on July 9th, with the general public following four days later. It will also be priced at $599 without commitments. [Phone Arena via Electronista]

wind

AeroCam Turbine First to be Blowin' in the Wind for Under $1 Per Watt

The "$1 per Watt" barrier may not sound as impressive as the sound barrier, but this next-gen wind turbine is the first, and has an unusual design. The AeroCam's horizontal-axis, flat-blade shape has blades that're dynamically angled to maximize wind-catching. It's also compact, so can fit into urban environments, and captures wind from any direction. Plus, AeroCam turbines make less noise and vibration than conventional ones, wear out less quickly and cost less to build. They may even be cheaper than solar panels, so it seems like a win-win-win. Since a 250kW unit will cost $250,000, it'll be your energy suppliers, not you, that ends up owning one. [EnergyDaily and Inhabitat]

dell ultrasharp 2709w

Dell's 27-inch UltraSharp 2709W LCD

Like the 27-inch 2707WFP before it, Dell's new UltraSharp 2709W features a mediocre 1920 by 1200 resolution with a 9-in-2 media card reader and 6ms response time, but the contrast ratio has been upgraded to to 3000:1 and the brightness level to 450 nits. Outside of that you will get just about every port you could possibly need—from USB to HDMI to DisplayPort. Plus, it can be had for $999, which is only about $200 more than the 2707WFP is selling for right now on the Dell website (still a bit pricey if you ask me). More »

LG Launches "World's Most Energy Efficient Monitor" For Green Geeks

On the off chance you are looking to save a few bucks here and there on your power bill, LG has announced the Flatron W2252TE—a display that they claim is the "world's most energy efficient." Apparently, the monitor uses 45% (or around 40W) less power than traditional models. Interestingly enough, the 22-inch Flatron manages to score a 1680 x 1050 resolution, 2ms response time, 170 degree viewing angle, 250cd/m2 brightness and a surprising 10,000:1 contrast ratio despite the drop in power consumption. A price point has yet to be determined, but the monitor is slated for a UK release this August. [Pocket-lint]

all-in-one pc

Proview All-in-One PC is iMac-esque, with Pen-Writing Screen

Several all-in-one desktop PCs seem to have taken design inspiration from the iMac recently, but Proview's upcoming VD1-26W has the added feature of a pen-sensitive screen for freehand writing, drawing and, presumably, mousing. It's no HP Touchsmart, but is pretty slimline, with connections and ports pushed into a small box on its rear, and has a 26-inch screen with 1000:1 contrast and glass protective shield. There's little more info, other than it does both VGA signal input and output and has its own wireless pen, so you'll have to watch this space for both price and availability. [Aving]

Palm Treo 800w Caught Running Windows Mobile

We know, huuugggeee surprise that the upcoming Palm Treo 800w will be running Windows Mobile. But now we've got the photographic confirmation. If only the blogosphere was so committed to capturing Big Foot in poorly whitebalanced lowlight photography, we'd really have something. Here's a shot of the rear: More »

Pentax Optio W60 Extreme Weather Cam Good for Dips, Not Dives

The Optio W60 is the most waterproof Pentax cam yet. A step up from the W30, it's a 10MP point-and-shoot that will survive at depths up to 13 feet for two hours, good enough for the pool, beach and most non-competitive snorkeling. It also handles freezing temps (14°F) and is certified dustproof against dirt, sand and dust. The Optio features 5x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle shooting, and HD video recording. It comes in silver and blue and will be out in July for $330. Maybe this summer I'll test it against the Olympus 1030SW and others in a Bathtub Battlemodo. Additional picture after the jump. Cowon A3 and Q5W Media Players Get 80GB Storage Each

We've reviewed both the Cowon A3 and the Q5W and found them to be fantastic media players with a pretty damn wide range of video and audio format support. Cowon's just bumped up both players to 80GB, which is great since you're probably going to be loading both with lots of video files. We're still waiting for it to go up to 160GB like the iPod classics though. [Cowon]

BlackBerry Bold Also Inspired By Sony Ericsson W880i, Evidently

While working on the W890i review, I came across a video of Brian using a Sony Ericsson W880i and found the icons to be extremely familiar. A few seconds later, I realized they bear a striking resemblance to those found on the recently announced BlackBerry Bold. And not that it's a huge deal or anything, but after BlackBerry's CEO insisted on it being three years in the making and not a response to anything, I find it a bit odd that the Bold shares commonalities with two phones released in 2007. Lightning Review: Sony Ericsson W890i Walkman Phone (Great, No Nonsense Candybar Phone)

The Gadget: The Sony Ericsson W890i is a slim, Walkman-branded follow-up to the W880i. It offers up Walkman Player 3.0, a 3.2 megapixel camera and Sony's great UI, all in a candybar form factor that doesn't dominate the pocket. While this is currently a Europe-only product, Sony Ericsson phones tend to wash up in the US eventually.

First Spyshots of the Palm Treo 800w

Remember that rumored mockup of the Palm Skywriter we showed you last week? Yeah, this spyshot (courtesy of aliased citizen Shadowmite) of the finished Treo 800w shows the prototype was pretty spot on with the button layout of this WinMo phone. While unconfirmed, the 800w is expected to run WinMo 6.1 on a 400 MHz processor with 128 MB of RAM and have 256 MB of flash memory. It's also rumored to introduce a few firsts for the Palm brand — namely EVDO Rev.A, GPS, and Wi-Fi. More »
