To follow up on its bicycling Murata Boy robot, Murata has subtracted a wheel, hired a stylist, thrown in a gyroscope and come up with the Seiko-chan, or "Little Seiko" unicycling robot. When the Mars Phoenix Lander touched down on the Martian soil, discovered water ice and microbe-friendlyacidicalkaline soil last month, it was quite a feat—for a human-controlled robot. But what if the robots sent to distant worlds could think for themselves, a la Wall-E and his Apple-esque main squeeze, EVE? NASA's betting on it, and has actually already started work on a "tier-scalable reconnaissance" program that would see armies of small probes exploring the outer reaches of our solar system with minimal human intervention, if any at all. Wall-E Review: One of the Best Sci-Fi Movies in Years, Disguised as a Cartoon
Wall-E might be the most sympathetic, lovable robot ever created on film. While R2-D2 was hilarious and endearing, he had the benefit of C3PO to translate for him and a cast of human characters to carry the weight of the story. At the end of the day, R2-D2 was simply comic relief, but his descendant, whose voice was also created by Ben Burtt, is so full of humanity that you feel like your heart might just burst. Simply put, Wall-E is a masterpiece.

The iDance WALL-E robot—essentially a dancing iPod speaker—is awesomely spazztastic. He busts his moves to the tune of any MP3 player via 3.5mm jack and gives a groovy light show with his eyes. WALL-E also speaks, saying his name in that adorable voice of his ("WaAaaAAaLL-E"). InterAction Wall-E and Eve Toys Get it on Robotically
We liked the big Wall-E toy, but with the InterAction Wall-E, it looks like he's even more "real"— reacting when you talk to him with lights, moving head and arms, speech and sound effects. InterAction Eve is similar, with added whooshes and laser firing when you whirl her in the air. But best of all: the two interact with each other, and if this illustration is anything to go by, it looks like a bit of robo-flirting is possible. How far they get it on is hazy: but I'm wondering how many parents are going to have to modify the "birds and the bees talk" with a new angle. Due Summer, no info on price. [Toyology] -

Wall-E Movie is Jonathan Ive's Latest Design Job
CNNMoney/Fortune has a story out saying that Eve, the female character to stand opposite Wall-E in the movie of the same name, was designed in part by Apple lead designer Jonathan Ive. The robot design is kinda cool, in that it reminds me of the most recent incarnation of Marvin the Paranoid Android, but the real story to be told is of Ive's day spent with the Pixar guys working on Eve. We just saw the Wall-E toy in action, and it's a pretty interesting toy (although not $190 worth of interesting). The best features include fully articulating tank treads, 10 motors, audio and vision sensors, remote control by both joystick and touchpad, individual shutters on each eye, and collision detection. Wall-E also has a "follow me" mode that'll allow a Wall-E to stick to a kid or dog and track it around the house. Wall-E GameCube Mod is Too Cute (but Not Too Cute for the Giz)
Long before the Pixar movie hits the big screen this summer, a group of German modders have been inspired by Wall-E's cuteness to take an old and unloved Nintendo GameCube and some scraps of metal and acrylic, and put together a sweet mod that looks just like the little robot himself. It even has tank treads and a flip-down shutter, like Wall-E's, over the Gamecube's ports. Second Wall-E Trailer Hits The Internet
The second trailer for Pixar's Wall-E hit the French video site Allocine late last Friday (it officially came out today at 8 p.m. EDT) and the movie looks like it will be nothing short of awesome. While I could have done without Cars, and thought Finding Nemo was overrated, I absolutely loved Toy Story, Ratatouille and now this trailer. Wall-E revolves around a robot living in a future world who aspires to be more than a lowly worker bot. And he presumably sets out to achieve his dream. What also makes this film interesting is that it will be sans-dialogue according to the director. Robots in the future with a slight avant-garde twist? Consider me excited.
