Boxed Water: It's What's for Drinking

Boxed milk and juices are a supermarket staple, but one company is now selling boxed water.

Boxed Water Is Better sells water in cartons, ditching the plastic bottles while reducing the overall carbon footprint of packing and distribution by 80%.

20% of the company's profits are passed along to reforestation (10%) and water relief (10%) while you sip on the sweet hydrogen/oxygen nectar of Minnesota and a few parts per billion of paper pulp.

But while Boxed Water is undoubtedly more sustainable than bottled water, I can't help but think the product's absurdity does less to open a new market than close an old one. In other words, Boxed Water is a ridiculous solution to an even more ridiculous problem—that we'd rather buy packaged water than drink it for nearly free out of the tap. Can't you picture some nerd at the gym, probably wearing glasses and a headband, taking a sip of Red Bull or Mt. Dew out of this R2-D2 bottle while he pumps five pound weights?

If there was ever a reusable water bottle that we'd pay $29 for, this would be it. The Kor One is made out of BPA free plastic, and can be opened with one hand while cycling or running or eating or wiping. Their website is exactly what you'd expect from a company that's selling a $29 water bottle and is filled with earth-friendly/ridiculous phrases like "sustainability" and "The KOR ONE is not a water bottle, it's an invitation." When you have been rouging it where showers are hard to come by, you will be happy to to have a Universal Shower Diffuser close at hand. Basically,the device attaches to the top of a standard PET water bottle and restricts the flow of water so that it can be dispensed like a shower head when squeezed. Not all the tech we buy needs to be brand new and manufactured specifically to fit our needs. With a little ingenuity and cheapness, you can rig up common household objects to do the job just as well. Here's an example of such a thing, using a $6 hot water bottle as a laptop stand for your lap instead of buying regular ones five times as much. It keeps your thighs away from the burning laptop and cools both it and your legs at the same time. Very useful for a smoldering summer day. Careful that it doesn't spring a leak though. BottomsUp Purifier Lets You Drink City Water, Possibly Urine

If you have a phobia regarding your drinking water, this BottomsUp concept may be right up your alley. All you need to do is screw the filter onto any standard PET bottle and the water that emerges on the other side should be nice and clean. You can also attach a PET bottle on either end for an easy transfer. Something tells me that this idea is good enough to become a reality—my only question is, what the hell is in that bottle on the right? Additional picture after the break.

Swede Teen's Improved Water Bottle Can Be Filled Anywhere

In a world where adults walk around with water containers hanging out of their mouths just like babies suckling their bottles in their cribs, the water bottle business is obviously booming. Here's a teenager who figured out how to improve the containers that carry around water, but not the store-bought kind. Swedish 15-year-old Anna Axelsson noticed how difficult it is to fill larger water bottles in shallow sinks, so she added another twist cap on the side, making it easy to fill from a horizontal position. It's now on sale for five bucks at Swedish sporting good stores. The idea is good enough to spread across the world. Maybe it will help persuade people to give up their infantile attachment to rip-off bottled water, perhaps someday realizing that in double-blind testing New York City tap water does just as well as even the most expensive Agua De Culo.
