Having dropped a few electronics in water, especially my cell, I turned them OFF, took the battery out, dried them off as best I could, and quickly stuck them in the freezer to dry. Seems to have worked pretty well.

I can see it being a good dry place, but I would think that it would freeze any water that was still in the phone and damage it.

I might have to try this out.

@Ibelieveinsandwitches: Freeze dry (very cold air is dry and evaps the water which then is taken away through the freezers moisture exhaust). I know it sounds goofy, but its what the "pros" use, and on a lot more than electronics. The trick is to know how long to leave it in there (better longer than shorter as some moisture may be left that is undetectible.)

An SD card might survive fresh water, but if you're scuba diving and your camera floods (it's happened to me, with film not digital) I bet salt water would be pretty bad, especially if the camera's still running.

@kabu: There are plenty of stories around of people losing their cameras to the sea only to be found some place later and then the original owner was found from downloading the pics.
