LG Prada II Full Specs Leak Online

The last we heard of the upgrade to LG's Prada phone, the Prada II, was a grainy photo and some speculative specifications. Now over at Boy Genius Report they've been given a run-down on the full specs of the phone from a source they trust. The rumored 5-megapixel camera is indeed there, with flash and VGA video capability. 850MHz/2100MHz HSDPA's there too, as is the 3-inch screen. Read on for more.

Nokia's N96 Has European Debut, $800 Price Ticket

Nokia's much rumored, much anticipated N96 slider has just had its debut—in Europe. It's on sale for €550, or around $798 (yes, this is obviously the unsubsidized price—before tax, too). And though there's no firm info on the US launch timing or prices, this is a good indicator it's on its way. [Nokia]

Nokia N79 and N85 Roll Out Officially, With US 3G Aboard

After yesterday's dribble of info, Nokia's upcoming N79 and N85 are official now, and do indeed carry WCDMA support for US 3G goodness. The N79 has a 2.4-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera and comes with a 4GB microSD card in the box for storage, while the N85 has a 2.6-inch OLED screen, 5-megapixel cam and 8GB of microSD card storage shipped with it. Both also come preloaded with "10 made-for-mobile N-Gage" games and have FM transmitters aboard, for streaming your music over a nearby radio. Full specs below. Update: the N79 is due to cost around $515 and the N85 will be around $660, both expecting to ship in October.

Nokia's N96 Now Official, Quad-Band and HSDPA

After much leaking of information, Nokia's N96 slider cellphone is now official. It's a quad-band, US 3G-enabled (WCDMA) phone with a 2.8-inch screen, 16GB of built-in memory, a 5-megapixel Carl-Zeiss Tessar lens, A-GPS and 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi. The media-player functions of the phone get their own dedicated slide-out keypad, as we knew. It's due out in the last quarter of the year, and pricing is estimated by Nokia at around $810. Samsung T919 Touchscreen Handset Confirmed For U.S. T-Mobile Customers

There's no price or release date announcement attached to these images of the Samsung T919 just yet, but we do know it's coming to U.S. T-Mobile customers. Some day. Forthcoming Nokia N85 Slider Looks Like It's Getting U.S. 3G

Nokia loves to tempt U.S. folks with hot 3G N-Series phones that only work in Europe, before releasing a U.S. version several months later like they did with the N95. But according to FCC clearances, it looks like a version of the forthcoming N85 slider (N96's little cousin that isn't $1,200) with full tri-band WCDMA support is going to hit North America, which means AT&T users are in luck. LG First Off the Blocks with Combo 3G Phones That Do CDMA and GSM

LG has produced two 3G handsets, the KM560 and the KP330, that support all three WCDMA bands and GSM bands, too. The cellphones are compatible in 220 countries, meaning that global roaming just got that bit easier. HTC Boss Says 2 to 3 Android Phones in 2008, New Touch Interface Coming and More

Digitimes, citing the Chinese-language Commercial Times, said HTC was committed to building two or three Google Android-based handsets in 2008. This apparently came straight from HTC boss Peter Chou, who spoke to foreign investors in Taiwan last week. When we heard from Chou at the Open Handset Alliance/Android launch, he seemed confident that HTC would be first or among the first to launch an Android handset in 2008, but did not say there would be others. Smartphone-lovers will be interested to know about a trio of extra tidbits Chou mentioned as well:

• It would be launching a 3G phone in the near future that did not use the Qualcomm-based chipset.
• The current TouchFlo technology seen on such phones as Sprint's HTC Touch wasn't necessarily the greatest—anyone with any iPhone experience would find it unresponsive, says I—and HTC will be introducing a new touch UI technology in 2008.
• As far as the WiMax rollout goes, HTC would release a WiMax/TD-WCDMA mobile phone either by the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009. [ Digitimes via IntoMobile]

TechFaith Launches "World's First WCDMA/GSM Dual Mode Phone"

China's TechFaith Wireless Communication Company has developed what they are calling the "World's first WCDMA/GSM dual mode phone." The "Twins" phone, as it has been dubbed, allows users the option of loading one WCDMA card and one GSM or loading dual GSM SIM cards. That means it would no longer be necessary to switch out SIM cards or carry around two phones for calls on both business and personal lines.

Other features include: a 2.0 megapixel camera, 2.8" touch sensitive TFT-LCD display, 256MB/64MB ROM memory, MP3 and MPEG4 player, WCDMA modem, Bluetooth, and video call capabilities. Two models will be available the "Dragonfly" and "OMAP' with the latter having a faster CPU and tri-band network support instead of quad-band. Naturally, no pricing information has been released, which is just as well seeing as how this product is unlikely to make its way to the states anytime soon. Bummer. [TechFaith via TFOT]

That super light 2.4-pound Toshiba Portege ultra-portable (previous version here) has gotten a little upgrade in the form of 3.5G HSDPA connectivity. Ericsson Speeding Along

Ericsson announced Thursday that they will be assisting in the destruction of the English language by promoting a range of incomprehensible abbreviations, beginnning with a demonstration at CTIA of 28Mbit/s HSPA with MIMO, an evolution of WCDMA created using HSDPA in the downlink as specified in 3GPP release 5.

That's "faster mobile networking" for the rest of us, at least whenever the powers that be start actually manufacturing and selling it. Ericsson scopes 2008 as the year they expect to see MIMO in commercial networks.
