Nothing more nothing less. It's funny, I actually wrote them an email yesterday asking them what the status was since supposedly this month was release month. The Archos 9 looks better and better every day. #crunchpad

If they were to produce a tablet for an asking price of $1,000, they would pretty much have to offer some serious kit on board to make it as enticing as a unibody Macbook, like an official Modbook. @Kaiser-Machead: Yeah that's true. I guess I was extrapolating the cost based on the iPhone. If you try to buy that anywhere without a contract it could easily run you like 500-600 dollars as well so it would logical that this would be at least a couple hundred dollars more. I do think it would have a lot of better features though which would make it closer in ability to the Macbook which is also in the $1000 range. #crunchpad

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the HP TouchSmart, I believe, is the only full-size device with multitouch capabilities right now. And those things get expensive real fast. The issue here is tweets are too short to convey any meaningful information, and Michael wasn't able to fit all his thoughts in to 144 characters.

He meant to say

re crunchpad, obviously i'm delighted to have received this free press - people are going to go completely ripshit mad for this thing when we release it later in the year. People have also been talking about all this Kindle Killer buzz. It may be possible to play unauthorized e-books, but that's not what we built this thing for. That's bs. "It's completely false" is a calm denial that generates no real waves.

"i'm completely ripshit mad..." is a profanity laden piece of chum designed to get picked up in the blogosphere and stir buzz about a device that might be available in time for Christmas shopping.

I had a PepperPad for awhile and it really opened my eyes to the advantages of a dedicated home browsing device. Ultimately a netbook made a lot more sense though, since I couldn't really do much work on it, and for the price of the PepperPad it just didn't make much sense.

If this is inexpensive enough, I can see this being a big hit. I like the design, and I think the multitouch aspect opens up some great potential for it (how long until someone gets iPhone OS on it?). But I think the one thing that could undermine it is that it doesn't have a keyboard. I know, that's the point - it's a surfing device, not a working device. But I think folks forget how interactive browsing has become - we use email, we twitter (well, I don't), we comment, we blog.. it's all very keyboard-intensive.

It'll really depend on how easy the touchscreen is for typing. If it's pretty good, this might be fine. But if it's iphone-like or worse, I think I'd have a hard time using it.

I am not sure this is actually the crunchpad. Arrington has stated that he wants a 4:3 ratio screen and this does not have that. That said, I sure as hell hope this is the crunchpad. It is the right size and shape. I have been wanting a tablet in this size range for about 9 months now and this is the first one that I have seen that does not look like it sucks. If Arrington does not make this, I will have to call up some favors with my Intel buddies and force them to make one.
