    Was finished with 32mile bike ride, stopped at Dilly's for a hotdog, when a tween was chatting on cell to friend about it. I thought it was a joke. Got home and saw news online.

    Was at work at my new job and a customer came in and mentioned it. we shortly after pulled up a stream of CNN on one of our computers and googled info to find out if it was true and more info about what happened.

    I am not very news-connected during the day. Seldom have the TV or radio on and usually just glance at the news feeds on my Google home page.


    My husband works for a Spanish media conglomerate and he heard it on one of their stations. He doesn't speak much Spanish but it didn't take exceptional language skills to translate. He called me with the news.

    And, truth be told, his death has not affected my life one iota. I don't understand why there's so much hoopla over the death of a sort of creepy pop star who peaked two decades ago.

    I go old school with news like this and just stick to email. Still, I admit to being a bit excited to see a giant picture on Gizmodo of brown keys around white keys with a title right above it asking how we learned about Michael Jackson's death. Unfortunately, my slow synapses figured out that I was mixing the posts, and also mixing the literary meaning of the chocolate keyboard.


    The bigger question about M.J.'s (un)timely demise is how we rectify the questions of his personal behavior with his artistic genius. Or maybe an even bigger question is how we do that with every major artist in the lifespan of humanity. Or, am I back on the black/white thing, again? Hard to say.

    @Monty: You have to learn to seperate the artist from the art. For example, I really like Charles Manson's music. I do not think he is a good person by any stretch of the imagination.


    It'd be like a baker being a pedophile. He might make a damn good batch of cookies, which you should be able to appreciate, but he's still a pedophile...

    @unibrow4o9: Sorry for any mis-type - I am a fan of Michael Jackson the artist. I am not a fan of Michael Jackson's personal issues, and it is easy for me to separate them. Except, I think it is easy to see that the media is focused mostly on one element, and that is probably not realistic. Part of what makes someone an amazing artist has to do with what makes their personal issues unacceptable in what we consider "normal life". There is no way to rectify it, I recognize, but, to me, it is important to always keep both in mind.
