I'm more of a bourbon fan myself. All bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is bourbon. With that said, Maker's Mark is my favorite common bourbon. The best bourbon/whiskey on the planet is Pappy Van Winkles or "Ol' Rip Van Winkles". They make a 15 and 20 y.o. bourbon that can't be found anywhere else. Made in Lawrenceburg, KY; it in my opinion is the best stuff on earth. If your ever lucky enough to come across a bottle/drink DON'T waste the opportunity to try it...even if it is 30.00 a glass. <3

@WaffleTeamStrike! v26.00: I've been drinking Elijah Craig 18 and Buffalo Trace lately, but my go to is Woodford. Makers is ok, it's usually what I drink at the bar if they don't have any Woodford (Bulleit is popular too, but I can't stand it). I don't know how to explain it, but Woodford doesn't completely coat your tongue which I really like.
I'm not sure why I never tried Craig before, but wow, it's great, just too expensive to drink on a regular basis.
I haven't had Pappy before, it's now on the list ;)
EDIT: Oh Pappy is in with Buffalo Trace, hell I would love it then :P
@UnderLoK: Woodford is great. I have a friend that prefers it. This is a travesty but I like Woodford with a splash of water (ice changes the taste). I drink Maker's neat. If I ever get the chance to partake in some Pappy's it has to be neat. I have had Craig 18 before and it was very rich, that sad thing is not alot of bars carry it.
@WaffleTeamStrike! v26.00: I actually had Pappy 20 a few weeks ago during a small tasting and forgot or maybe I was just a little wasted... My buddy reminded me that he brought some over around Thanksgiving after I was saying that I was going to get some... I do remember not liking it :| He prefers the 10 or 12 so maybe I'll give that a shot and might like that better. The 20's generally have some funk going on that I never seem to like.
I drink my bourbon with ice, but only a few cubes. For me it opens it up a bit especially for the ones that are pushing 110+ proof. Plus I get less wasted ;)
@UnderLoK: Oh yeah man. It's always great to chat with a fellow bourbon geek. Yeah the 20yo for some reason isn't as good as the 10 and 12, why? I have no idea, my first thought is the fact that it's not chill filtered and comes straight from the barrel. Barrel batches usually do have quite a bit of funk. Also, like you when I tried 20yo I was already smerched so yeah. Thanks for the chat.
@berbar: I love me some talisker, but is it just me or did they realise they were good and raise the price significantly in the past few years. It was my go to "value for money" for awhile.
I just cracked open a bottle of Charles Shaw (3 buck chuck here in the Midwest) Austrailian Chardonay 2008. I will trade this bottle for a good shot of whiskey right now. Being from Minnesota, I am more of a Windsor man than Ballantine's.
@mattycakes: Haha, I don't think I would have ever learned the names Banker's club, Blue Wave, Calico Jack's and Admiral Nelson if I never went to college.
@Raziel66: i personally prefer the 10 or 18 year old, 15 is somehow a little too oaky for my taste. but then everyone has a different love for taste, give it a go, if you got a chance. #whiskeypc
A bottle of good whiskey is more likely to be emptied than bad whiskey. I'd hate to have a computer built of of any bottle that I would refuse to drink, that's just a waste.
It's not like there are tons of things more worthwhile to do with an empty liquor bottle. Might as well keep the bottles that housed the expensive stuff.
