If I ever get superpowers, I'm going to call myself "ProgMan".

Unfortunately, I foresee a lot of crashing and difficulty running.

@Barfolemew: You'll need floppy disks. About 7 of the 5.25" disks. Not sure how you'll fit those in the microSD slot though.

    Wow.

It's like hearig about the dearth of an actor who you didn't know was alive to begin with.

    R.I.P.

The deceased will be survived by DOS 6.2.2.

In Lieu of floppies please send donations to the Vista fund.

@strider_mt2k: 6.2.2 sucked. It wasn't as bad as DOS 4 (worst OS of all-time) and was a step up from 6.0 and the short-lived 6.1.

Nothing beats DOS 5, an operating system so solid that it required no point upgrade.

Firstly, yayy, thanks Gizmodo: I can now post comments from my iPhone when I should be working.

Secondly, anybody ever see how fast 3.1 would run on a much more modern system?like a 300MHz Pentium with huge memory? Like 32MB? Wow. Kinda like we'll be saying about Vista on a current machine in 5 years or so?

"With as much dignity as he could muster, the Old Man gathered up the sad remains of his shattered Operating System. Later that night, alone in the backyard, he buried it next to the garage. Now I could never be sure, but I thought that I heard the sound of CANYON.MID being played. Gently."

I still have a copy of it on the 500MB (yeah that has HUGE back then) hard drive from my first PC, which was the only item salvaged when that box bit the dust.

I wonder if it still boots...

I miss typing win every time I started my computer. It was like I had a choice. I thought one day I might be able to type OS2 or Unix or something on the same computer. Now all I get is a little picture to click on. Still, that sure is a cute puppy.

@reddingofish: It's not a choice; it's an affirmation. The computer asks what you want to do.

@net_addict: That Progman is a pretender. In my mind, the only real Progman is the one from Windows 3.11 for Offices.

I love you, Windows 3.11 on a DOS 5 install. I wrote you a poem:

    Autoexec.bat

    Command.com and config.sys

    cd c:\windows

@Hyman Decent: PROGMAN.EXE was the file name for the Program Manager under Windows 3.x and NT 3.x.

You can find it at "C:\WINDOWS\system32\progman.exe"

That's right. I know how your hard drive is laid out. It's like I'm psychic.
