    @jonthomasdesigns: Can your computer take more than 4GB of RAM? Because if you max out at 4GB, you're not going to see any real gain.


    64-bit apps take up more memory than their 32-bit siblings. So you'd gain only about 600MB of usable RAM.

    @OMG! Ponies!: On the other hand, if you're running the 32-bit copy on 8GB of RAM like I am, it would be a nice ~4.5 GB upgrade.

    For those of us who don't feel like googling right now how does MS's public betas work for things like operating systems? I've used betas of ie but I don't expect to pay for those at any point where as upgrading to Windows 7 would be $$$. Does the beta shut down when they start selling it?

    I have Windows XP on a 4 yr old (fairly nice) system. Can I install the Windows 7 Beta as an upgrade to my XP, keeping the programs I've installed, or would I need to erase my hard drive and install fresh?


    Before July 1st, will there be another Beta for me to install until Windows 7 is released, or will my computer just stop working?


    Is the Windows 7 Beta stable enough to take the risk?

    @MikeBR: If you're asking these questions you should not be running a Beta OS... there's a reason this isn't available to the general public through legitimate channels yet.
