Correct me if im wrong but isn't the student priced Windows 7 meant to be upgrade only? Hence you are not allowed to do a clean install anyway

@frenccw: If you have XP, how else can you upgrade besides a clean install? #windows7flashdrive

Would there be any issue using a torrent Win7 ISO and the $30.00 student key? #windows7flashdrive

@georgi55: Yea it has to be the right disc. Just saying that you can download the iso and use that legally.

I have no idea which dvds work with what keys however because all my keys are full install.

Well, you could do a half clean install this way. Reformat your pc with the origional OS, then do an upgrade to win 7. #windows7flashdrive

Wow, please please please. I had nothing but trouble getting XP running properly on my netbook. An all in one pack on a USB key would be a dream and a life saver. Yes. I WOULD buy TWO copies of W7 if they did this (one Pro/Ult and a netbook version).

Why not have a "net install" option? You go to thew website, make your purchase, get the license key, and download a little app that you save to one of your many useless tiny flash drives. Boot from USB, and the app takes over, downloads and installs.

I'm not saying this would be the ONLY way, but come on, its 2009. This kind of tech has been around for decades, why is MS not using it?

It probably wont happen as it would be too easy to copy the OS.

@Tolgak: alternately, it would be easier to implement hardware controls so it can't be copied.
