Um, I suppose it might put me on a naughty list to mention the friends I have that work at Microsoft - so I won't mention that. But, if there were no Microsoft employees that I knew, I would be pre-ordering since the beta actually looks surprisingly acceptable. Very surprising, actually. (Funny how Microsoft manages to build a good operating system only after making a crappy one. Well, not "ha ha" funny, but more like "WTF" funny.)
pre-order an OS? why, unless MS is giving out some extras for pre-ordering i see no point. its not like there will be a shortage. MS allows you to download software from there site via there e-purchase system.
I pre-ordered Home Premium for $50... but I wish they weren't assholes and gave it to me for free.
My old machine died (was running XP still), so I ordered parts for a new machine and broke down and finally ordered Vista Home Premium 64 Bit (as I was moving to a Core i7 with 12GB of RAM). I built it and installed Vista about a week and a half ago... I was hoping that they'd grand father me in, but nope, they said it was before today (the 26th) so I have to pay.
I'm a big multi-tasker and I do a lot of video and special effects work (After Effect, Premiere, Encore are what I deal with the most). Rendering a ton of effects super fast is worth ever penny!
It was also the best bang for my buck... I was going to do 6 or 8GB depending on price, but NewEgg had 3x2GB Corsair DDR3 1600 kits, so I bought 2 for under $200 for the 12GB
@longxiongdi: I've heard that Corsair 1600 is kinda iffy, you can get the OCZ Reaper 1800 or XMP 1600 (depending on your timing preference) for basically the same price.

Oh well... $50 isn't bad at all

Upgrade only though, urgh.
Curious if my mischievous copy of XP will work wit it...
Not worried about my Vista and other XP machine though.

Is Pro really worth the 50 bucks over Home?
