    Microsoft just helped guarantee zero sales of Vista in FY Q4!

    @loudensspam: Standalone sales are already so sluggish that they care more about not crippling sales for the hardware vendors, which in turn allows them to sell more licenses for a MS OS anyhow.

    I still want to know if this post [i.gizmodo.com] about the WARP feature in Windows 7 "a 'fully conformant software rasterizer', WARP requires nothing more than an 800MHz processor for complete-if comically slow-DX10 compliance" means Windows 7 will let an older system that stutters on hi-def video (but can more or less play it) display such video without hiccups?

    Cheap & easy upgrade for the folks why buy after July 1st? MS shows no love for the poor schmucks who have had to suffer through Vista.

    @SF_iris: What Microsoft did here is almost unforg@ChrisFu: I think that Microsoft should do the right thing here and offer a free upgrade to Windows 7 for anyone who paid for the upgrade from XP to Vista. If people got Vista free with a new computer or as free upgrade, I can't see any reason to give folks a freebie, but if people actually fell prey to MS's marketing hype and actually paid for Vista, they ought to get a free upgrade path. That seems only fair.

    are they going to offer install floppies like they did for Windows 95?

    I haven't upgraded since then, and would hate to have to buy a CD/DVD drive just to install a new OS

    @discounteggroll: Vista was on a DVD so I would assume that 7 will be on a DVD. They didn't have DVDs in 95 so I think that it would be safe to assume that your computer wouldn't run any OS that came on a DVD. You might need to take a look at some new hardware or just converting to Mac. Mac works a lot more like W95.

    There.

    Seriously, why is that so hard to understand? Don't you keep up with news? In order to have DRM free music, it is 30 cents per mp3. So in order to 'upgrade' your current library to DRM free music, it is 30 cents, per mp3, for however many gigs of music you have. That statement is called SARCASM. Ever heard of it? WHY am I even bothering to explain.

    @monkey_87:

    TOO QUICK???

    Are you kidding...

    Although I admire M$ products, Vista felt like it was an incomplete version of Windows 7. Windows 7 is going to be like the 'new' XP or the Win95 in that it will be unique and different than the older MS OS's.

    I kinda like their strategy, though.

    First release a perfect OS: WINXP

    Followed by a crappy one: Vista

    Next, blow everyone away with something better than the previous version of the perfect OS: Win 7

    I don't know if was really their strategy, but it got me!!! I'm going 12AM to the stores this time to get a copy ...

    @Saurabh Bhatia:
    WinXP wasn't even CLOSE to being perfect when it was released. So how did they just up and release a perfect WinXP? It took a while to get to that point.

    @lilaliendog:
    "there is hardly anyone using or wanting to continue using VISTA"

    You do realize that over 250 million Vista licenses have been sold? This is compared to Apple selling 9.7 million macs in 2008.

    @JEmlay: Just a minor nitpick, but seems that the 250 million Vista licenses sold is mainly sale of third-party systems with the licenses attached, rather than people actually buying Vista standalone. Since these comprise the bulk of the market in general from the major PC vendors, it's sort of a moot point.
