1. I don't really give a damn about being able to pin the recycle bin but I would like to be able to pin whatever folder I want to the taskbar as a separate item with a customizable icon and preview even when not opened so that the pined folder acts like the explorer pin with a single folder open.
2. I honestly think this is a good thing. Think back to the Vista launch and remember how many problems people had with upgrade installs, now think back to XP and how many problems it had when installed as an upgrade. And it's not just Microsoft that has issues with upgrade installs, every time Apple releases a big update of OSX we see reports of Macs with upgrade installs having all sorts of problems the ones with clean installs weren't having. Same thing in Linux world. Upgrade installs are just trouble.
3. I can't believe you didn't know the eject shortcut, it's been there since XP.
4. There are a couple useful ones but yeah, most of them suck balls. They either don't work, their a pain in the ass to configure, their butt ugly, etc, etc. They need to copy what google did with the Android launch, hold a competition and get people dev'ing... maybe do a pay-per-download thing, where a developer would get a couple cents for each unique download.
5. Can't argue here. Media Player's just gotten too bloated, it's like a bunch of smaller apps haphazardly tacked together. That said, I still prefer it over iTunes, but that really doesn't say much as I absolutely hate iTunes.
6. I haven't had any issues.
7. I can't agree more. Control Panel has become a f**king mess and their over-simplified version only makes things worse. I'm not sure what needs to be done to fix it but I consider it broken right now. (and yes, I'm aware it's searchable, that doesn't work when you're writing english speaking monkey scripts)

Though I haven't installed them and I'm doing fine so I'm going to agree that they aren't all that "essential".

1. It gives you more acccess to more options.
2. USE THE DAMN SEARCH FEATURE.
3. USE THE DAMN SEARCH FEATURE. because it helps. try it for once. Windows 7 is perfection.
One thing that I'd agree with is the Media Player. Please Simplify it Microsoft. AND support Zune with Windows Media player rather than another bloated software.

It's like drinking shitty coffee, and someone says don't complain about it because you can pour a ton of milk and sugar in it. It doesn't change the fact that the coffee is swill.

The other gripes are fairly valid.
"Hate" is a bit of a stupid word to use since the things have almost nothing to do with O\S functionality.

If I only heard good stuff I'd wonder who's crank was getting yanked here.

And I actually love the new Media Player, never used it before, but in 7 I didn't even install winamp. I think WMP is simpler to use then in Vista, plus you get more viewing space when watching videos, which is always a welcome.

I like Windows 7 but I have some concerns that I'd like addressed before final release
First thing - EVERYONE I spoke to even at the MS booth at CES said they want the UP FOLDER back in explorer - yes there are other ways to go back one folder but the up folder was convenient.
Classic start menu - not an option - classic start menu makes it easier to support clients if they have key components such as network properties and my computer on the desktop. I'm not saying it should be the default but why not make it an option as it was in Windows XP and Vista? I realize you can put some icons on the desktop (not IE) using personalize.
Media Center won't let you click on album art cover once a song is already playing to play the new song from the album art cover. Seems only logical.
Media Center - often has static in playback - using Audigy 2z sound card.
Search works well but it would be great if the search in the start menu had a drop down just like run has in the start menu so you can repeat a search from your search history.
Aero interface stops working without message so flip 3d stops with alt-tab - using the troubleshooting fix sometimes solves it by enabling desktop manager - sometimes it can't - how do you manually enable Windows desktop manager - personalize desktop works but nothing to control the aero interface
Since most current receivers and other media streaming capable devices will support .flac file playback, it seems a shame not to use the native media player in windows as a media streaming server - instead because windows does not natively support flac playback, we have to look at alternative hardware streaming solutions or mediaplayers similar to windows media player but with flac support such as tversity or Twonky or Nero
Winver does not tell you if you are running 64 or 32 bit - computer properties would be improved if 64 or 32 bit was listed in the top section. It never states if you are installing the 32 or 64 bit version during installation.
It would be nice if it was easy to see what version and build of windows you were running by going to computer properties or by running winver - currently it tells you Windows Version 6.1 - Build 70000 - it doesn't say 7000 x64 081212-1400
During Install if you attempt to install with a brand new drive it won't install until you format the drive and reboot.
There is no desktop icon for IE - this was very handy for clear items and change settings etc before going into IE.
Do something with the 200 MB partion in disk manager so it is clear that it is a restore point or whatever - change the color of it, just make it more clearly defined.

Thats what they want you to believe,
Truth be told windows 7 is worse than vista.
Cant go 2 freakin seconds without it crashing on you.
And on top of that, sp2--oops i mean win7 should be free.

@Jim Halpert: It's you mate. I've been running it on a couple of systems for a few weeks now, haven't even had a program crash let alone the OS. I sort of skipped Vista but booting back into XP after having gotten used to 7 was like going from XP back to 98.

i hate the 'give it to me free' whiners too, you don't expect Ford to give you a new Mustang every year because they changed the design of the wheel from '07 to '08 model years, do you?

This statement just reinforces my opinion that PC users think that Windows 7 is perfect. Whatever error a user gets while running Win7 is either:
A. It's you. Not Windows 7
B. It's Beta...

Don't get me wrong, I am really not happy with the media player (WTF? I shouldn't have to change the skin to get to the friggin EQ!!!).
And the network libraries having to update every time you open them makes the whole premise pointless. I just added the shared folder to the native library and so long as WMP can see that folder everything works great!
So from my personal EXPERIENCE (and the experiences from about 4 dozen other techs that I have discussed 7 with extensively), if it is crashing often it is because you botched the install or are running it on bad/damaged/unsupported/too old hardware.
I have seen/heard of ZERO instances otherwise.
