Giz Explains: Why the Windows 7 Taskbar Beats Mac OS X's Dock |

There are some things I am OCD about and having all my little icons left-justified drives me batty. A nice centered dock at the bottom of the screen and a text taskbar at the top.

"But Apple didn't make those parts better" Who's implying?
"so that's obviously more difficult" What? Who? Where?
"don't you understand fanboy logic?" Why do you think I replied?

I honestly can't even remember the last time I have had a virus..
Keep on trolling, cause you obviously need the practice as you suck at it.

this is 2009, who gets viruses anymore?
not to mention the UI for the superbar (as microsoft has already said/shown/) was taken from WINDOWS 1.0.
so i guess if you think the dock is comparable to the new task bar you can blame that on apple for stealing the idea.

So he's got that going for him as well...

Correct me if I'm wrong but Windows 1.0 didn't have a taskbar...
01/21/09
Windows 1.0 barely had a desktop...

Just accept that some people like to have a program, and use that program, and have life be extremely simple.

First thing I did after running Win7 for 10 minutes was send a note to MS saying how terrible the new taskbar is. I wouldn't like it with Aero. I literally just want the old taskbar, with as few new features overall as possible. I just want it to work is all, not crash all the time, and not use 1.5 gb of RAM with no windows open and all the updated features turned off **looks at Vista, shakes fist** I bought the laptop because my ancient Dell C640, which I used like a netbook, couldn't handle having more than 20 tabs open in Firefox. Turns out the old 1GHZ Celeron with 512mb RAM and XP was FASTER than the 2.x ghz dual core with 2gb and Vista. I pray Windows7 does not fall prey to bloat by the time it's released.

I suppose if PC manufacturers stop trying to screw over their customers with "Win7 Compatible", "Win7 Optimized", "Win7 Useable" tags and releasing 3 year old hardware and lying to people than this wouldn't be an issue. Let's hope they have learned their lesson.
So basically, it's not people with few-year-old machines I'm worried about. It's the people with brand new machines who still won't be able to use this software.

Many people were confused or distraught over the introduction of OS X (especially because 10.0 was horrible until the real 10.1) from OS 9, but because it is such a small user base compared to Windows it isn't much of an issue now. I can foresee many people (basically because most people use Windows) being absolutely lost at the introduction of Win7 to the general public and not understanding it or not liking change simply because they've been using a similar Win OS for a decade.
The huge switch to OS X went well enough because it was eventually a mandatory change as Apple can control that. Win7 won't be as many already have a stigma towards a non 95/98/XP OS such as when they introduced Vista; in which many decided to stay at their older OS because most didn't have to, and as it was such a huge makeover.
So basically, since MS didn't do a gradual change ("Hey, let's TOTALLY redo Windows! It'll be great and we'll call it Vista!") and doesn't have a steady release of updates as with Apple (though, with 95% of the market a new paid update for Windows every ~2 years wouldn't be logical) it will probably take 10 years for a majority of users to get to Win7, in which there will most likely be a new update for that as well.
I wonder how many users out there (your parents/grandparents/loners) that still use Win98 almost a decade later compared to the Vista user base?

Many people have even put the Win7 beta on hardware that is specifically underpowered and couldn't run Vista at all, and Win7 performed extremely well in most cases.
They other key thing to remember, is that Win7 is still a beta and device drivers are not even optimized yet for all the various pieces of hardware out there. The current track record for Win7 is exceptional, surpassing even Windows XP and OSX in terms of "out of the gate" performance and stability.
Also, given your previous posts, and my ability to glean context clues from your writing, I'd wager you're not really worried about anyone's ability to run Win7, insofar as it allows you to mock them. Thus far, your posts inthis thread have been vailed (albeit thinly) anti-MS Apple Fanboy diatribes.
I suggest you actually try Win7 on an average PC (1.66GHz single core and up) with 2GB ram and an average 256MB video card (the likes of which wouldn't cost more than $40 at Wal-Mart). I think you'd be somewhat surprised at just how versatile, stable and different it is. Assuming, that is, that you can take the blinders off for a little while.

With that said. I do find that the Windows 7 taskbar is very functional. After using it for a while it's hard to go back to something else. My only gripe is that itunes could be a little more integrated like other apps. Wishful thinking right? Right clicking for just about everything else (especially the CS4 suite) saves a ton of time.

Besides, as much as Apple has been taking steps back with their new hardware releases their OS updates have been solid ever since 10.1. Just because the Win7 taskbar has finally been updated to be useful (Vista doesn't count cause everyone, even MS CEO's know it is an all around awful experience) doesn't mean the OS X dock is any worse.

Firstly highly unlikely. The IT Crowd has only just finished broadcasting Series 3 here in its homeland. And the DVD is not even out yet so unless this is from the future this copy wouldn't have been physically owned.
