AAA batteries for power! I was worried it would be some proprietary or, heaven forbid, unreplacable lithium-ion job, but if it's put together properly it could indeed last a lifetime.

Awesome! So I can post it on the internet! Now all I need is Facebook integration so I can shame myself into weight loss...

Or, I could start a contest to see who could gain the most the fastest!

600 dollars means it will cost Best Buy employees like 20 bucks. Rocketfish stuff is absolutely insane markup.

In reply to You Can Buy RocketFish's $600 1080p Wireless Kit Now, But You Shouldn't
Gizmodo would probably receive higher ad revenue if it wasn't dismissive of products that it hasn't directly reviewed. The price and promised feature set are certainly fair game for commentary, but there's no need for the flat out "don't buy it" phrases.

There are many applications where a $600 price for this technology today is warranted.

Instead of forming opinions for your readers in the opening paragraph of your article, try being objective about the product. Tell us what we need to know, and inject your opinion at the end. That helps us, and will in the long run help Gizmodo.

@Jason Chen: I agree, and the opinions are at least 1/4 of the reason I read gizmodo.

But stating "don't buy it" instead of "hard to come up with reasons to buy it" sends the wrong message to advertisers and users.

It certainly can be your opinion, as a general home user, not to purchase the product. But would your opinion change if I told you I'm a entertainment venue with a few projector screens, or a network operating center with a large display? Those applications make perfect sense, even at $600. And people that work in those fields read your articles every day.

Surely you're not going to tell those large sections of your readership to go elsewhere?

@traviscollins: Try to find a comprehensive review. I'm sure Giz would have provided one if Best Buy deemed them relevant product reviewers. In the mean time, everythink they stated is perfectly accurate. Remeber the $1,000 Blu Ray players? You ALWAYS pay more for tech out the gate...

@Jason Chen: Philips has a wireless HDMI out this month too (finally WL HDMI is moving). Gizmodo being quite the authority on gadgets I expected a more open view on untested devices. It is in the end the early adopter that will finance the next better and cheaper version that you are waiting for as a follower (bèhèhhhhh)

@j05hu4: The problem isn't how well it works--it could work as well as a regular HDMI cable, but it's still $600, and it's still super new, which is why we say don't buy. Same reason evilR3 gave earlier for Blu-rays. We wouldn't have recommended MOST people buy a $1000 BD player. Of course there are niches that need it, but if we were to give a recommendation (which we try to do on each post), it's to not buy. And that has to cover the most amount of people.

There used to be a time when you could tell if someone was crazy, because he was talking to thin air.

Then for a while you had to look at the crazies to see which ones were just douchebags with bluetooth.

Now there's really no way to tell. "Is that guy giving God stock advice?"

I don't wear bluetooth headsets but if I did I would want them to be as visible as possible so people wouldn't think I'm talking to myself. With this you not only risk damaging your eardrum, but everyone around you will think you're crazy. Especially when you tell them you're wearing an invisible bluetooth headset.

In reply to New Palm Prices: Pixi at $25 and Pre at $80
Wow, that makes the Pre nearly $1000 dollars cheaper than the iPhone 3GS for an individual, even more savings if you have a family plan.

    $30(per month savings)*24(months)+$220(savings on phone)=$940.

In my mind there is nothing the iPhone can do that justifies an extra $1000 over the Pre.

Of course both Sprint's and AT&T's coverage suck in Chicago (especially AT&T's) so I'm on Verizon.

@elementary: I dunno about that. Everyone I know who got a Pre when they first came out really, really regrets doing it, and everyone I know who has an iPhone (including myself) is so happy with it that they come off as shameless douches whenever they tell someone about it.

Lest we forget, the 8GB iPhone 3G is $99. And still a better phone than the Pre.

See, I kinda sound like a douche right now. I must be a totally satisfied iPhone customer!

I'm betting the only reason your friends regret it is the fact they don't have nearly as many apps. As for the iPhone, if you like getting gouged on monthly rates, I suppose anyone can be happy.

@Fractal the Meek: Sprint doesn't work in my condo, but seems to do fine elsewhere. Obviously that still makes it a no-go for me. Sucks, I'd be back with Sprint in a second otherwise.

AT&T on the other hand works fine in my condo, but elsewhere in the city, not so much.

As much as I hate Verizon, I've never been without coverage in the city.
