<![CDATA[Lenovo X60 Tabletized, Gets the Achilles Hinge]]> I love the x60 Thinkpad. It's small, solidly built, and has a model with built in cellular data. A few days ago, the blogs went mad over leaked info about an X60 tablet with Core Duo and Solo processors, and the ability to use both a magnetic pen (standard on tablets) or a finger to draw on the touchscreen. More options generally aren't a bad thing.

The main thing I find strange is...

...the very concept of a Thinkpad tablet.
No tablet hinge I've ever seen has been sturdier than a couple of plastic straws tied together. It's the very concept of a rotating, swiveling, and ultimately cracking hinge that seems at odds with the essence of what makes a ThinkPad so geektastically bulletproof and protected by IBM tech support Angels.

This is all theory; there is no recall for the not even released notebook, rumor-whores. In fact, I'm sure that if anyone can build a tablet with a strong hinge, its IBM/Lenovo. But part of me that that loves the X60, wishes it could be left alone as the iconic road warrior notebook I think of it as. Tablets are for babies.

PS: This isn't their only Tablet. The X40 (pictured) has a similar screen size as the X60, albeit with a slower Pentium M chip and has no option for cell data.

<![CDATA[Samsung's Core Duo Pair]]>
Samsung's been a busy bee, and per usual, comes out with some good-looking equipment for us to ogle. The X60 and the R65 are both Core Duo notebooks with 15.4- and 15-inch displays respectively. Both come with T2300 Core Duo processors backed up with half a gig of RAM and 80GB hard drives and both are blessed with Samsung's "Digital Natural Image Enhancement" (DNIE) and "SuperClear" technology.

The X60 also comes with an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 graphics card, five hours of battery life and weighs in at 5.3 lb. You can grab this baby for about $1,800. The R65, on the other hand, is a bit more of a powerhouse, with a nVidia GeForce Go 7600 graphics card, SRS 3D speakers and two PC card slots which can use both PCI Express and PCMCIA standards. It weighs in at about 6 lb. and runs for about $2,000.

<![CDATA[Samsung's Sexy New Dual-Core Laptops]]>

Samsung is trying to do one on Apple with its new X60 and R65 dual-core laptops. Sexy and sleek like a MacBook Pro, with their polished metal and black keyboards they have an TiBook-esque appearence. The X60 has a 15.4" widescreen which looks stunning, Gigabit ethernet, five-hour battery life, and so much more. 802.11 a/b/g wireless, Bluetooth, and twin-array microphones to filter out unwanted ambient noises and ensure high quality sound add to the mix to make the X60 a serious powerhouse laptop. The R65 has all the bells and whistles as well, but adds built-in rear SRS 3D speakers for the ultimate multimedia experience. These lovely laptops will set you back about $1585 for the X60 and $1765 for the R65. Start saving, buddy.
